2nd ANNUAL JolabokaFLOYD at McDaniel’s Tavern (Buffalo Mountain Brewery)
Thursday, December 12, 5pm - 8:30pm
Jolabokafloyd is Iceland’s national tradition - Loosely translated as the “Christmas Book Flood”, it is a traditional practice where everyone gives books at a holiday gathering, and then spends the rest of the evening warm and cozy, reading their new book, discussing the books with friends, sipping hot cocoa or brown ale, and eating chocolate…..WAIT. WHAT? OH. MY. GOODNESS.
Our book exchange will start at 5:30pm. Bring in a wrapped book of your choice; perhaps your favorite book, or one that you know will warm the soul or excite the mind of a friend.

The thirty-fourth Madrigal Dinner-Concert is scheduled for Saturday, December 8, 2018, at 7:00 p.m. in the Floyd County High School (FCHS) cafeteria.
Sponsored by the FCHS Choral Department, the evening will begin with the greeting of the guests at the Wassail Bowl in the high school lobby.
A program of seasonal music will be presented by the beginning and advanced choirs, followed by selections sung by The Madrigal Singers, a select group of students from the combined choirs. Seated at a festively decorated head table, and dressed in period Renaissance costumes, The Madrigal ensemble will perform songs from the 16th and 17th centuries. Interspersed among the madrigal selections will be instrumental pieces performed by guest artist Heather Blake, a sophomore at FCHS and classical violinist.

Appalachian Traditions - Mugwort, Yule & Winter Solstice
Wednesday, December 18 6pm-8pm
at Chantilly Farm
The longest night of the year is honored through many rich traditions throughout the world. In Appalachia these traditions tend to be a mix of Scott's Irish, with a heavy pinch of Cherokee wisdom and a dash of Celtic lore; these are the ways that have held on for generations in the hollers; yet they are fading fast. In this class we’ll explore the different traditions and lore that today remain as little fragments of stories and superstition.
Join Laurie as she weaves together the knowledge left from our past and brings it to life through stories and tales of old as you create your own Dream Doll or Pillow and an Incense Blend to take home.
