Youth Exhibitions Reception: Floyd Co. High School, Blue Mountain School, & Teen Photography

January 16 : 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Free

Each year, the Floyd Center for the Arts presents its Annual Youth Exhibitions, celebrating the creativity of young artists in the region while recognizing the educators and schools that support arts education. This year’s exhibitions are now on view in three galleries, with an opening reception scheduled for Friday, January 16, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. The reception is free and open to the public.

In the Hayloft Gallery, Floyd County High School’s Annual Art Exhibition features more than 200 works created by over 100 students under the instruction of art teachers Aven Tanner and Sara Thompson. The exhibition includes painting, drawing, sculpture, mixed media, and clay works. As part of the annual exhibition experience, students also participated in curating and installing the show, gaining hands-on exposure to professional exhibition practices in partnership with the Floyd Center for the Arts Gallery Committee.

The Falcon Gallery presents the Blue Mountain School Art Show, an annual exhibition showcasing student work developed through process-based learning and creative exploration. Under the guidance of Lore Deighan, a Floyd County native, students spent the past two months experimenting with color, materials, and expressive techniques. This marks Blue Mountain School’s third consecutive year participating in the Center’s annual youth exhibitions.

Concluding the exhibitions in the Breezeway Gallery is What Strikes My Fancy, a solo photography exhibition by Jonathan Morisco, an award-winning teen photographer and published artist. Morisco began taking photographs at the age of four and has since earned numerous awards at the Floyd County Fair, including the 2025 Grand Prize. His work has also been published, and the exhibition features photographs created across several years, including images made when he was just six years old. Together, the photographs offer a compelling look at his artistic growth, technical skill, and long-standing curiosity about the world around him.

The Annual Youth Exhibitions will remain on view through January 24, 2026. The opening reception on January 16 offers the community an opportunity to experience all three exhibitions in one visit, celebrate the achievements of young artists, and recognize the teachers and schools that nurture creative learning. Complimentary food and refreshments will be provided.
