Join us Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 7:30pm for a special evening at the Floyd Country Store with two of the greatest flatpicking guitartists, Wyatt Rice & Richard Bennet.
Both have made contributions to bluegrass and acoustic music world. Wyatt & Richard will be joined by bassist Tina Fields. Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 day of show.
Richard Bennett left a powerful mark on bluegrass music in the 1990s as lead vocalist and guitarist for J.D. Crowe & The New South and contributed to the Grammy nominated Flashback record. Richard then appeared on three albums with Jimmy Gaudreau and Mike Aldridge and toured as Aldridge/Bennett/Gaudreau. Richard also released three solo CDs between 1997-2002 on Rebel Records and continued to tour in support of the new releases. In 2004 Richard joined Bobby Osborne & the Bluegrass Express and made several appearances on the Grand Ole Opry. In 2012 Richard Bennett released Last Train From Poor Valley on Lonesome Day Records, which garnered airplay on Bluegrass, Folk and Americana Radio.
Fans of acoustic guitar music should be well acquainted with the name of Wyatt Rice. Wyatt was first spotlighted as an original member of the Tony Rice Unit where he played primarily rhythm guitar, although he had many opportunities for soloing as well. Wyatt has been featured on numerous recordings, videos, and has played countless gigs with the Tony Rice Unit. He played lead and rhythm guitar with his own band “Wyatt Rice &Santa Cruz” and with The Ronnie Bowman Committee. Wyatt has recorded or performed with players such as David Grisman, JD Crowe, Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, Dan Tyminski, Alison Krauss, Bela Fleck, Rickie Simpkins, Ronnie Bowman, Lee Ann Womack, The Lonesome River Band, Sierra Hull, Ricky Skaggs, as well as his brothers Larry, Tony and Ronnie. Wyatt has recorded “Advanced Bluegrass Rhythm Guitar” (DVD) with Flatpicking Guitar Magazine and been featured on several of their special compilation CD’s.
