To celebrate 50 years of County Sales in Floyd, The Handmade Music School and County Sales is offering a Traditional Brother-Style and Bluegrass Duet Singing Workshop with Jeremy & Corrina Stephens at the Floyd Country Store on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at 3:00 pm. Registration is free with a suggested donation of $20 to Handmade Music School and County Sales.
Rural musics such as old-time, bluegrass and country are substantially built upon harmony singing and the ways in which traditional artists approach harmony singing has changed significantly over time. In this 90 minute in-depth workshop, Jeremy and Corrina will explore the foundations of duet harmony singing in old-time and early bluegrass music. Also, the origins of these styles as well as their evolution and separate functions will be covered. The styles and harmony structure of artists such as the Delmore Brothers, the Blue Sky Boys, the Louvin Brothers, Don Reno & Red Smiley, Jim & Jesse, and many others will be discussed and demonstrated. Attendees will leave with knowledge on how to hear and execute various harmony singing styles.
