Third Annual Floyd Youth Get Together Camp (Ages 12-16)
July 15 : 9:00 am - July 19 : 3:00 pm
The Handmade Music School is excited to announce the Third Annual Floyd Youth Get Together Camp for kids ages 7-16. These amazing five-day traditional music and dance summer camps will take place July 8th-12th and 15th-19th, 2024 at the beautiful EcoVillage in Floyd County, Virginia! We’re thrilled to offer two sessions this year to meet the needs of our growing youth community. The first week is geared towards beginner and intermediate players ages 7-11 and runs from 9:00-1:00pm Monday – Friday. The second week is for more advanced players ages 12-16 and runs from 9:00-3:00pm Monday to Friday. Lodging for families is available on-site.
The Floyd Youth Get Together Camp is a fun-filled week immersed in the traditional music and dance of Southwest Virginia. Our camp will offer exciting and interactive classes in fiddle, banjo, guitar, mandolin, singing, bass, and dance. Morning and afternoon sessions will feature instruction, performance, presentations and enrichment activities with visiting musicians. Kids will jam together, be involved in square-dancing and square dance calling, perform and learn about the long history of music and dance in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
The first session for 7-11 year olds is geared towards beginner and intermediate students. The second session is for experienced students looking to take a deep dive into music and dance. Please reach out to info@handmademusicschool.com with questions about where your child would fit best.
The camp will take place at the Floyd Events Center, which is part of the Floyd EcoVillage. The facility features a beautiful and secluded setting on 75 private acres just a few miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway and the charming town center of Floyd. There is lodging onsite for families coming from farther away wanting to make a week of it. Camping, cabins, and bermed lodge rooms can be booked through the Floyd EcoVillage.
Our mission is to ensure that kids coming to our Youth Get Together camp experience the community and joy found in our traditional music and dance.
