Join us for this exciting world premier of John Bari’s work ~
a program three years in the making ~ and more than 200 years overdue!
Folk musicians round the world know the many glorious melodies
of Turlough OʼCarolan. Now, for the first time, singer-songwriter
John Bari ~ from Richmond, Virginia ~ has created a startling
and beautiful set of translations of Carolanʼs immortal songs, from
the words originally written in a now-extinct mountain dialect of
Irish. The words were what drove Carolanʼs music, and these new
translations make his music come alive as never before, elucidating
the human condition as exemplified by the stories of the men and
women around Carolan in those turbulent days of the Penal Laws.
“John is a master lyricist.” ~ Barry Bless, Richmond notable
“Bari’s enthusiasm is infectious as he brings new life to each song, illuminates the poetic genius of O’Carolan,
and elicits a bubbling stream of delight from the dulcimer.” ~ Anonymous
