Class Description: The Blue Ridge Woodturners Club is offering introductory woodturning experiences for beginners with The Floyd Center for the Arts this summer! Join members of the club at John Ioviero’s home studio, for individual attention on the basics of woodturning. John’s studio is located just off Alum Ridge Road in Riner, close to Floyd VA. You’ll be taught about the use of tools, how to sharpen the tools and, of course, safety when turning wood. This intro workshop is a pre-requisite to future project based workshops the club will be offering through late summer, fall and winter in 2017. During this workshop you should expect to work on your own wood lathe using a variety of local woods provided by John. You’ll practice basic forms of V’s, Coves, and Beads. Knowing these forms allows you to turn wood into just about anything and will be used for the other project based workshops, like pens, vases, flowers, ornaments, bowls and boxes, later in the year. Tuition for this workshop also includes yearly membership to Blueridge Woodturners Club, a chapter of the American Association of Woodturners.
