Join the Handmade Music School for a series of online workshops this winter! We’ve asked some our of favorite old time pals to share a little time with us online this winter discussing, demonstrating and teaching their award winning and distinctive musical styles. Zoom in on February 27th a duet harmony singing session with Caleb Klauder and Reeb Willms! Price is pay what you can with a strongly suggested donation of $25 and a minimum $5.
DUET HARMONY SINGING WITH CALEB KLAUDER AND REEB WILLMS:

Come sing a duet with us. The basic idea of harmonizing is to sing along with a lead or melody in a complimentary way that is harmonic. And in duets, there is a lot of freedom unlike singing in a trio where you need to stay in your lane! Most anyone can learn to hear and hopefully do this, given some dedicated ear training. In this workshop, we will start with the foundations of harmony singing, breaking it down into a few simple ideas that can be put into practice right away. We work on finding a tonic or root note, then build a chord, find an octave, and practice this in different keys. We will learn a song, and practice these basic concepts, building confidence by first placing the melody firmly in our minds, and then branching out to sing a harmony part with attention to lyrical and melodic phrasing. Bring a song journal if you like.
MORE ABOUT OUR WINTER VIRTUAL SERIES:
These hour and a half long workshops will be a great opportunity to hear some really inspiring music, learn some new insights and techniques, and reconnect with your community in the cold dark of winter. The loose format of these sessions will be:
- a short intro where each artist is either interviewed by the Handmade Music staff, or talks a little about themselves and their approach to stringband music and instrument
- plays a few of their favorite recordings, talks about why they love them
- plays a few tunes with a friend or 3
- teaches a tune or song or 3
- a question and answer zoom hangout session
