The event strives to be Interactive and informative experience for all ages, so bring the entire family!

Attendees will enjoy learning more about the many ways alternative energy benefits our local, regional and global community, while getting the opportunity to engage with local vendors and service providers in the alternative energy sector.

Workshops are scheduled throughout the day for those interested in gaining a more in-depth knowledge of certain topics. Areas of interest may include off-grid classrooms, solar homes, energy conservation and efficiency, electric cars, renewable power including wind and solar, sustainable agriculture and forestry, green products, weatherization, energy auditing and much more

One especially interesting feature of the Energy Fair will be a guided bus tour of Apple Ridge Farm in Floyd County, showcasing its new EBase USA: Blue Ridge. This is an off-grid, solar and wind-powered classroom, housed in a fully remodeled 1917 railway boxcar donated by the National Railway Historical Society and renovated through a community volunteer program with international corporation AkzoNobel.

There are only five such EBases (Educational Bases) in the world…one in Antarctica, three in India and one in the United States (at Apple Ridge Farm in Floyd County). A sixth EBase off-grid classroom is under construction in Mexico. Sir Robert Swan, a polar explorer and environmentalist, started the global EBase movement.

SustainFloyd and Apple Ridge Farm hope everyone will mark their calendars for Saturday, July 14 and plan on spending the day at beautiful Chantilly Farm learning how families can save energy, save money and help preserve and protect our natural environment!

NEW THIS YEAR!!! Healthy Floyd will host the Healthy Floyd 5K Run at Chantilly Farm on the same day! Be on the lookout for more details soon!
