Crafting Appalachia: Tradition & Innovation Art Exhibit Opening Reception

August 17 : 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Free

You’re invited to a FREE public opening reception this Saturday, August 17, from 2-4 PM!
We hope you’ll join us to unveil three remarkable exhibits:

1. McNeil-Epperly Family Legacy: Discover five generations of quilt-making tradition starting with Florence Aldridge McNeil, who began quilting in the early 1900s. From her early functional quilts to the intricate Double Wedding Rings and Seven Sisters she crafted for her grandchildren, this exhibit showcases the rich heritage of Appalachian quilting.
2. Crafting Appalachia, Tradition and Innovation: Explore the vibrant world of Appalachian craft! This exhibition celebrates both traditional and innovative forms of craft, featuring fiber arts, basketry, woodworking, ceramics, metalsmithing, and more. Witness how these time-honored crafts are evolving into fine art.
3. Plein Air Preview: Get a sneak peek at the juried artists of the upcoming Floyd Plein Air Biennial. Each artist presents a single painting, offering a glimpse of the exceptional talent that will be featured at this week-long outdoor festival.

Don’t miss this opportunity to immerse yourself in the beauty of traditional and contemporary Appalachian arts. See you there!
