Buy Nothing Trunk Or Treat and Potluck
October 28, 2017 : 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
FreeBoo! It’s scary how much we waste, especially during Halloween.
95% of the pumpkins we grow will be carved into lanterns for Halloween and discarded once it’s over. Americans will buy more than 600 million pounds of candy this year – just for Halloween! Nevermind that a third of the food produced goes straight into landfills every year.
What’s even scarier is that while only 3.1% of the world’s children live in America, they own 40% of the toys consumed globally. The average 10-year-old owns 238 toys, but only plays with 12 a day. And who wants to clean all that up?
Let’s try something different this year! Gather up those old, usable toys your children have otherwise outgrown, throw them in your trunk, and join us with your kids at the library October 28th at 4 pm to share what we already have. Please bring your favorite fall dish as this will be a potluck event.
Don’t forget to wear your spookiest costume!
If you can’t attend, but have toys you’d like to gift contact your buy nothing group’s admins and we’ll gladly pic them up.
