Blue Ridge Parkway guided Hike

September 24, 2016 : 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

Blue Ridge Parkway Hike
A guided hike is scheduled on the Parkway in celebration of the National Park Service 100th Anniversary.  This hike is one of a National Park Service initiative to have 100 Hikes led by community leaders across the nation. This initiative presents a powerful opportunity for parks and communities to engage with one another.  Linda DeVito Kuchenbuch, Little River District Supervisor, will lead this hike and will be joined by a member of the National Park Service.

The hike will be on Saturday, September 24th, at 10:00 am, at the Rocky Knob Picnic Area, MileMarker # 169.  People will gather behind the Visitor’s Center for the one – mile easy hike.  People are encouraged to bring their lunch as there will be a picnic after the hike.  Entertainment is planned.

In addition to the NPS celebration, September 24 is also National Public Land Day.  NPLD is the nation’s largest, single-day volunteer effort for public lands. Through NPLD, the National Environmental Education Foundation works to connect people to public lands in their community, inspire environmental stewardship, and encourage use of public lands for education, recreation, and general health.
