Being Your Own Best Friend

July 10, 2018 : 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Self care and addictions are two sides of the same coin. Join us for five weekly classes exploring and deepening our self-awareness around what’s keeping us from putting more time into self-care and/or what’s keeping us in addictive behavioral patterns that do not support our health and well-being. Open to both experienced Focusers and as an intro to Focusing concepts. There is no partnering in this class, we work individually. The adult class meets for five Tuesdays online starting July 10, 1.5 hours. There is also a teen/tween online class for ages 12-18 that meets for five Weds starting July 11.

If you curious about Focusing and looking for a gentle introduction, this space is for you! It’s also an ideal space for an experienced Focuser to work on these particular inner themes with the benefit of a weekly structure. Being Your Own Best Friend is centered around exploring and improving your relationship with yourself from wherever it is now. You will deepen your sense of trust within. We’ll explore how our brain works using current neuroscience concepts. We’ll use various body awareness, mindfulness and Focusing activities to become familiar with our own individual inner processes around what it means for us to be our own best friend.

Each session of five classes will have a theme we work more deeply with. For 2018-19, the themes are:

Self-Criticism/Judgement for Spring

Self-Care Habits/Addictions for Summer

Loneliness for Fall

Classes will include time for sensing within yourself, mindfulness exercises to adapt into your daily life, opportunities to become more familiar with how to navigate your inner landscape, Presence language exercises, writing, art and body awareness/movement activities and possibly a Demo of Focusing-in-action. There will be some reading and handouts provided by email. We will not be partnering with others in the class here, only working individually. Focusing experience is not required, although it will certainly add to what you get from this class. You will be able to go deeper on the themes offered here if you already have experience.

For the Video Web Conference class, we will be utilizing a program called Zoom. You will need to download it onto your computer or phone to join us via video. You’ll be in a conference space with myself as teacher and a group of friendly fellow learners from all over the US. With zoom, you are in control of your video and audio, and have access to a chat space to type in comments or responses. Video Web seminars work amazingly well. Hope to see you here!
