“To Begin The World Over Again: The Life Of Thomas Paine”

May 21, 2016 : 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

Join us on May 21st for a sneak preview of the film “To Begin The World Over Again: The Life Of Thomas Paine”. This film was written by and stars Ian Ruskin, is narrated by Elliot Gould, and was filmed by Academy Award winning cinematographer Haskell Wexler. This was the last film by Haskell Wexler before his death in December of 2015. We’ll be showing the film at the Jesse Peterman Memorial Library at 6:00 pm on May 21st. Admission is free but seating is limited so please leave a comment to this posting to let us know if you’re attending.

The film tells the life story of Thomas Paine, the largely forgotten founding father, author of Common Sense, The Crisis Papers, The Rights of Man, and The Age of Reason. His writing changed the world, and continues to inspire people, and movements for freedom and human rights to this day.

Paine’s story is a remarkable one of self sacrifice and commitment to principles, of close brushes with death, and friendships with many of the 18th century’s most well known persons. He figured prominently in both the American and French revolutions, wrote three of the best selling books of his time, and gave away all of the rights and proceeds from his life’s work.
