Banjo Workshop with Josh Ellis

January 23, 2016 : 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

January 23, 2016 @ 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm | $20.00

The Floyd Country Store presents a special banjo workshop with Josh Ellis! The workshop is from 3 PM – 5 PM on Saturday January 23, 2016. Upstairs at the Floyd Country Store at 206 S. Locust St. in Floyd, VA.

Josh Ellis discovered old-time music when he moved from his home in Bluefield, WV to Galax, VA many years ago. Upon moving to Galax, he learned from many local banjo players including Ray Chatfield, Peco Watson, Kirk Sutphin, and Enoch Rutherford, however, his playing is also influenced by Tommy Jarrell, Fred Cockerham, Kyle Creed and Wade Ward. Josh credits some of his playing style to a comment made by Ray Chatfield, who told him that the two most important parts of playing the banjo are to keep time for the dancers and to try to play what the fiddle is playing without losing the rhythm. Today, Ellis is an award-winning clawhammer banjo player and a member of the renowned old-time band, the New Ballards Branch Bogtrotters.

To reserve your space in this special workshop, please email Dylan Locke at dylan@floydcountrystore.com or call the Floyd Country Store at 540-745-4563. Limited spaces available – first come, first served.
