Students from Community Cello Works~ Lisa Liske-Doorandish’s Blacksburg studio.

Lisa Liske-Doorandish, who performs both solo and chamber music, also served as associate principal cello of the Roanoke Symphony and principal cello of Opera Roanoke for ten years. She has also dedicated herself to teaching high-quality cello technique and musicianship. Lisa finds that the performing and teaching aspects of the cello complement each other and have equal importance to the community.

The program will include a composition for cello and voice titled Interludes. Composed by Patrick Simpson of Blacksburg, based on selected writings of Henry David Thoreau, it will be performed by Lisa and Springhouse Community School co-founder Joe Klein. The music will range from Baroque to jazz to improvisation.

The music caps other GiveBigDay events at Springhouse Community School’s open house, 9:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. All events are free, but donations are welcome for the cello concert.

All community members are welcome to visit and tour the school. Prospective students and parents may sit in on classes throughout the day. EcoVillage Tours: 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
