Bill White’s works express his “sense of place”, while in is his studio or out in the landscape, both here and abroad..  The works translate sensation and feeling into form. The vigorous, yet considered character of form conveys a lush sense of light and space rooted in his handling of color. He is Professor Emeritus from Hollins University where he taught Drawing, Painting & Contemporary Art History.

His works are included in numerous public & private collections. The cover of Artemis 2015 was created by Mr. White from the top of the Taubman Museum and is in the permanent collection of the Museum.  His works can be seen at the Market Gallery, in downtown Roanoke, VA, The Nelson Gallery in Lexington, VA and at the Warm Springs Gallery in Warm Springs, VA. Bill White’s home and studio is located in Troutville, Va.

The goal of Artemis is to foster excellence in literature and the arts in the Blue Ridge Mountains and southwest Virginia. Throughout its twenty-two years Artemis has published over one thousand writers and artists.  This year’s theme, “the Courage of our Convictions‘ features an essay by Beth Macy on her approach to writing and her “guiding tenets” of her journalism.  Bill White likewise, included an essay about his artistic choices in life as well as 2 paintings which includes the cover image  “The Taubman Panorama: Taubman View #4”.

This years journal includes short stories, as well as poetry and art. Continuing in the traditon of presenting a number of first-time-published poets and artists, the journal also features many distinguished contributors besides its guest writer, Beth Macy and guest artist, Bill White.

Artemis 2015 is the 22nd published journal founded in 1977.  Jeri Rogers returns as editor, Virginia Lepley returns as design editor and Maurice Ferguson returns as literary editor.
