Floyd residents and visitors will soon enjoy a special Saturday morning when SustainFloyd hosts its annual Breakfast at the Market from 8:30 a.m. -11 a.m. on September 15th. All-you-can-eat pancakes, freshly scrambled eggs and delicious local grits are among the offerings. This always friendly, cheerful breakfast is held outside at The Village Green behind the Floyd Farmers Market. The Fork Mountain Ramblers will provide toe-tapping Floyd music.
Breakfast at the Market is a fundraiser for the Floyd Farmers Market, established in 2011 by SustainFloyd. The Breakfast is only $8 for adults and teens. Children 11 and under will eat for $5. Local pasture-raised patty sausage can be purchased for an extra $2. Real fruit toppings, maple syrup, Red Rooster coffee and orange juice will be included.
Floyd’s Blue Ridge Café will provide major support for the event and the breakfast will be served by SustainFloyd volunteers. Much of the food for the meal will come from area farmers and food businesses, many of whom will be donating their products.
“Some of my friends look forward to our Breakfast at the Market all summer,” said Billy Weitzenfeld, President of SustainFloyd. “We are hard at work in the planning. Everyone will be welcome and the food is delicious. This breakfast provides much-needed funding for our beloved Floyd Farmers Market, so we hope everyone will come out for it.”
SustainFloyd’s new recycling center will be there ready for kids and adults to help decorate, so come and see SustainFloyd’s volunteers on how to join in on making a mark. The non-profit organization has been working hard to design, build and paint the center.
The SustainFloyd Solar Voltzwagon will provide power for Breakfast at the Market. The solar generator was built by SustainFloyd volunteers, with an eye towards spreading the word about alternative energy solutions. The Voltzwagon can provide emergency power during a power outage and may be rented for a variety of outdoor events.
No reservations are needed for Breakfast at the Market and there are no advance tickets. Those having breakfast will also enjoy the convenience of shopping from a full array of vendors under the roof of the adjacent Floyd Farmers Market. The Market and breakfast are across the street from the Floyd Country Store.
The Floyd Farmers Market will be offering local, sustainably-produced vegetables, fruit, eggs, and meats. Area florists, cheese makers, bakers and crafters will also sell their goods.
