Self-Care through Mindfulness: A Daylong Retreat

$50 – $85Life can be stressful. Without tools to deal with stress, we are certain to suffer.
Mindfulness is a scientifically proven method of managing stress while also maximizing one’s efficacy. In this one-day retreat, participants will:
• Find relief from burnout and fatigue;
• Recover their sense of purpose, vitality and wellbeing;
• Learn new self-care and focusing tools;
• Learn to relax and manage stress;
• Settle a busy mind;
• Learn how to skillfully handle emotions and thoughts;
• Direct and sustain their attention;
• Cultivate compassion; and
• Develop their listening and communication skills.
Workshop Facilitators Joe Klein, Alan Forrest, and Nenden Stillman-Runyon have developed a fulfilling and effective program of mindfulness meditation and fun workshop activities that enable participants to experience a newfound sense of connection and safety.
Scholarships and CEUs are available for this retreat. Registration is only $85, and $50 for students.

Workshop Facilitators
Joe Klein, LPC, CSAC, is the founder of iBme. He brings playfulness, Earth connection and whole brain/whole body/whole-heartedness to his work as a counselor and meditation teacher. He teaches graduate courses, retreats and workshops on mindfulness at Radford University and provides mindfulness-infused counseling for people who struggle with depression, anxiety, trauma, and addictions in southwest Virginia. In 2014, Joe helped to co-found Springhouse Community School, which fosters connection to self, community and Earth through mentoring and project-based learning for teens in grades 7-12.
Dr. Alan Forrest, Ed.D. is a Professor in the Department of Counselor Education at Radford University, and a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist with extensive clinical experience. In addition to his personal mindfulness meditation practice, Alan leads, and co-leads, mindfulness retreats for students, human services health professionals, educators, and young adults, and facilitates weekly mindfulness practice groups at Radford University. He is infuses mindfulness into both his counseling practice and the college classroom. He has served as a conference committee member for various mindfulness-based conferences in Southwest Virginia.
Nenden Stillman-Runyon, LCSW, is a mental health therapist who brings mindfulness practices into her work with veterans at the Salem Veterans Affairs Medical Center. With an emphasis on cultivating awareness of the mind-body connection in trauma-informed therapy, she integrates mindfulness into individual and group settings, and is exploring how mindfulness can be used in work with chronic pain, and as a modality in combination with EMDR therapy. She also leads online mindfulness groups for brain injury survivors through Brain Injury Services of Southwestern Virginia’s CLiC Forward program.
