There are plenty of reasons people fall in love with Floyd, Virginia. Whether it’s listening to live music, discovering unique shops and galleries, exploring the beautiful outdoors, or learning where your food comes from, Floyd offers authentic, memorable experiences that keep visitors coming back. Now, Floyd has earned another distinction worth celebrating: being named one of the Top 61 Happiest Mountain Towns in the Blue Ridge by Blue Ridge Country Magazine.

The magazine recently conducted a reader poll to identify the happiest mountain towns across its seven-state coverage area, which includes the mountain regions of Virginia, North Carolina, West Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia, and South Carolina.

Before opening the voting to readers, Blue Ridge Country Magazine evaluated nearly 100 communities using several quality-of-life indicators, including cost of living, commute times, crime rates, unemployment rates, education levels, and household income. After applying those criteria, 61 towns and cities remained and were grouped by population size for reader voting.

In the category for communities with populations under 10,000, Floyd earned an impressive third-place ranking, behind only Lewisburg, West Virginia, and Blowing Rock, North Carolina.

Readers who voted for Floyd highlighted what locals and visitors alike have long known: there is something truly special about this mountain town.

Another voter praised Floyd’s unique blend of culture and community:

While rankings and accolades are always appreciated, Floyd’s greatest asset has always been its people. Floyd’s welcoming hospitality, creative arts community, musical heritage, locally owned businesses, and beautiful Blue Ridge Mountain continue to create memorable experiences for both residents and visitors.

Whether you’re enjoying live music, exploring local art galleries, hiking scenic trails, shopping at the Floyd Farmers Market, or simply relaxing on a front porch with mountain views, it’s easy to see why so many people consider Floyd one of the happiest places in the Blue Ridge.
