DESCRIPTION:Springhouse announces their 3rd Annual Wayzgoose Printing Festival\, What Do You Stand For?\, hosted through their print shop\, Sourced Press. The festival will be held at Springhouse on Saturday\, November 8th\, and is made possible in part with support from grants Springhouse received from the Virginia Commission for the Arts and the Mid Atlantic Arts.\nThe Wayzgoose celebration is a printer’s tradition from the 16th century\, celebrating the transition from printing by sunlight to candlelight. This year\, we celebrate the connection between our community print shop and Ireland. Inspired by a transformative visit to the National Print Museum of Ireland\, our community came together to create a print shop that celebrates the rich heritage of printmaking while fostering creativity and connection. Today\, our community print shop continues to inspire—offering a weekly open studio and immersive opportunities for teens and adults\, and is also a place where we publish books and cards that spread the message that life is a gift and it is our responsibility to take care of it.\nAt the 3rd Annual Wayzgoose Printing Festival we will celebrate the ways the print shop empowers us to use our voices through the printed word to stand up for what we believe in.It will include a letterpress and poetry printmaking workshop from 12-4pm and a community printing project from 4-5:30pm where participants will have the opportunity to print what they stand for through various mediums. These workshops will be followed by an Irish meal from 6-7pm and a concert from 7-830pm with the Irish band Mist on the Mountain.\nPlease register before November 1st.

DESCRIPTION:2nd Annual Sourced Press Wayzgoose:\nFestival de impresión/ Printing Festival at Springhouse \nNovember 1st\, 2024\, 4-8pm\n4-5:30PM – Printing & Workshops\n6-8PM – Tortilla Social Dinner & Community Conversation \nSourced Press\, Springhouse’s print shop\, opened its doors in May 2023 to share the message that a new world is possible. Our printmaking techniques\, such as letterpress and handmade books\, offer a way for our community to experience the power of the printed word and a tradition steeped in social justice\, literary works\, and cultural transformation. We are delighted to announce our 2nd annual Wayzgoose celebration– a printer’s tradition from the 16th century\, celebrating the transition from printing by sunlight to candlelight. \nThe printed word and art\, and the sharing of stories and food\, are ancient ways of building community and of sharing a message. More and more in our world today\, people feel alienated\, and afraid\, especially in rural America. Political\, racial\, and religious differences are being reinforced through divisive rhetoric on all sides. There are few opportunities for real human connection or developing a sense of community and belonging\, let alone ones that bridge these cultural gaps. The 2024 Wayzgoose at Springhouse will be a time to highlight the voices of immigrants\, refugees\, and asylum seekers through the art of printing\, the sharing of stories\, and making and sharing a meal together. \nWe are excited to welcome Salvador Jiménez-Flores\, interdisciplinary artist from Jalisco Mexico\, and founder of the Tortilla Social\, an interactive printmaking and food workshop where participants use a multi-functional tortilla press to make their own art work and to eat freshly made tortillas. This event will include a workshop from Jiménez-Flores and community meal\, followed by a community conversation with Jiménez-Flores and members of our regional community. \nNo one is turned away for lack of funds.
