SUMMARY:Tour de Floyd
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Saturday\, May 16th 2026 for this year’s Tour de Floyd. \nThe famed Tour de Floyd is back and better than ever. Now with five different distance options\, including gravel riding and a kids ride! \nIf you haven’t ridden your bike in Floyd\, you are in for a treat! There is plenty of climbing\, plenty of amazing views\, some easy miles and some very challenging stretches. This year’s ride will once again be starting at the Floyd Eco Village just outside the town. \nTour de Floyd is partnering with Red Rooster Coffee and Blue Mountain School to offer 6 aid stations\, including a coffee station at the start (featuring Red Rooster)\, the old classic “Cookie Station”\, and 5 other stations to be sure you get to the end with plenty of gas left in the tank. After the ride\, stick around for chili and cornbread and a cash bar. Riders eat free. Guests are welcome to purchase a bowl of chili — every penny goes back to the school. \nAll proceeds go to benefit Blue Mountain School\, a 44 year old contemplative progressive school in Floyd VA.

SUMMARY:Blue Mountain School 2nd Annual Summer Solstice Guided Night Hike
DESCRIPTION:Blue Mountain School’s 2nd annual Guided Night Hike will lift the veil of darkness and blend the spirit of adventure with the joy of learning.\nJoin the fun and step into the wild side with Field Biologist Eric Wolf and Blue Mountain School’s experienced teachers. \nAfter the children have gone home for the day\, Blue Mountain School’s woodland neighbors come out to play! Bats\, owls\, salamanders\, cicadas\, tree frogs\, nightjars\, and raccoons are just a few of the nocturnal neighbors that may make an appearance on the campus after the sun sets. Come visit Blue Mountain School’s campus and experience the heart and soul of outdoor learning in the New River Valley\, where outdoor experiences shape the daily lives of students. \nBring along your water bottle\, close-toed shoes\, and a headlamp\, along with your deer ears\, owl eyes\, and a spirit of wonder! We’ll begin our evening by meeting next to the Native Plant Garden for children’s activities and an introduction from our hike leader\, Eric Wolf. \nEric has been a professional wildlife biologist for over 30 years\, with project work spanning from Central and South America to across much of the United States. However\, he is particularly proud to have lived\, worked\, and studied in the southern Appalachians for most of his life\, developing intimate personal and professional connections with its biotic communities and cultural heritage. \nFor more information\, contact BMS at contact@bluemountainschool.net.
