SUMMARY:Country Style Singing with Jamie Collins
DESCRIPTION:The Handmade Music School presents Country Style Singing with Jamie Collins at The Floyd Country Store on Sunday\, June 2\, 2024 from 4:00 – 6:00 PM. Cost is $30. \nCountry Style Singing with Jamie Collins\nABOUT THE WORKSHOP:\nThis singing workshop will focus on a couple traditional Carter family tunes such as “Keep on the Sunny Side” and “Will the Circle Be Unbroken”. In addition to the traditional songs the class will focus on the stylings of the late Bluegrass musicians Dave Evans and Dr. Ralph Stanley. I want to dive into the songwriting of the Stanley Brothers and Dave Evans and the delivery of Dave’s “Pretty Green Hills” and The Stanley Brothers’ “Jacob’s Vision”. The way these masters delivered the songs with so much feeling through their singing is how I strive to write\, play\, and sing music. \nAbout Jamie:\nBorn and raised encircled by the rich history of mountain music traditions of the Blue Ridge\, Jamie Collins carries tradition forward with her own fresh take on bluegrass\, old-time\, and country music. \nHailing from Bristol\, Tennessee known as the Birthplace of Country Music\, Collins was born to a mountain music family featuring her flatpicking virtuoso father\, Tony Collins. Instilled with a deep love and appreciation for the local  traditions at a young age\, Collins grew up attending festivals and fiddlers’ conventions\, where she witnessed some of the best in old-time and bluegrass. Inspired by the musicians in her life\, Collins would go on to pick up several instruments\, including the guitar and upright bass. \nIn addition to the instruments that she plays\, Collins is also a celebrated Appalachian singer\, which has made her a sought after harmony singer on other artists’ projects. Her musical prowess has garnered her several prizes at Fiddlers’ Conventions throughout the region including the highly regarded Galax Fiddlers Convention. \nCollins has performed alongside her family\, as well as with The Rose Sisters\, The Heather Berry + Tony Mabe Show\, Mason Via + Hot Trail Mix\, Adam Bolt\, and with her own group featuring Martha Spencer and Brett Morris\, The Blue Ridge Girls. \nAs a solo artist\, Collins has released an album entitled “Enjoy Life” which encapsulates the positivity that she brings to the world. Offering a mix of original songs and traditional numbers\, the album features a multitude of regional talent with Collins at the center. \n\nREGISTER AT HANDMADEMUSICSCHOOL.COM

SUMMARY:The Floorboards
DESCRIPTION:$5 at the door ~ \nWe are so excited to welcome this fantastic band back to our stage – be sure to come out for an awesome night of American Roots Rock! \nThe Floorboards\, “Deeply felt\, expertly played\, workingman’s rock n’ roll”. – Floydfest \nThe band is an American Roots Rock ensemble hailing from the Blue Ridge Mountains. They artfully marry rock & roll and country roots with the sights and sounds of southern mountain towns. Jake and Rob shake the leaves from the trees. Chris coaxes stringed cries from the hills and hollers. Jamiel adds a touch of humidity and breeze. Matt writes and sings the story. \nThe Floorboards delicately walk a line between singer/songwriter\, Matt Browning’s\, evocative lyrics and guitarist/songwriter\, Chris Blankenship’s\, tastefully blistering guitar work. “The Floorboards remind me a bit of Gary Clark Jr.\, and are a must-see for any blues and country lovers. You will be impressed by their polished sound and thoughtful lyrics.” – Paige\, The Jamwich \n“If you’re an alt-country kind of a person\, do yourself a favor and check this crew out. Even if you’re not into all of that\, I’m betting you’ll turn into a head-bobber even if you don’t start cutting a rug.” – Jeremy\, HomeGrown Music Network

SUMMARY:The David Parmley Band
DESCRIPTION:Join us at The Floyd Country Store on Saturday\, June 8\, 2024 at 7:00 PM for a live concert with The David Parmley Band. Tickets are $20 general admission\, $25 reserved seating\, available for sale online and in the store. \n\nABOUT DAVID PARMLEY\nDavid Parmley began his musical career at age 15 and by the time he turned 17\, he began his full time career as a member of The Bluegrass Cardinals. That band featured his father\, Don Parmley\, and three Los Angeles musicians. In 1975 they made their way to the Washington DC area and began performing several nights a week for several years. David’s lead and baritone voice was the backbone to The Cardinal sound. Dozens of musicians have worked with David and Don over the years but “The Sound” remained constant. The Bluegrass Cardinals recorded dozens of projects during their 25 year run. The material is considered the finest to come out of the 70’s and 80’s bluegrass era. David left The Bluegrass Cardinals in the 90’s to pursue a solo career. After taking some time off\, David Parmley has returned to bluegrass music with a new renewed spirit. \n\nBUY TICKETS ONLINE

SUMMARY:There's the Buffalo!
DESCRIPTION:Old Church Gallery proudly presents our 2024 exhibit “There’s the Buffalo!” Over twenty local artists share their personal visions of Floyd County’s legendary Buffalo Mountain using textiles\, photography\, painting\, and glasswork. Also included in the exhibit are memories of early 20th Century life around Buffalo Mountain taken from 1999-2001 interviews with longtime residents.\nAs the Cultural Arts Museum for Floyd County\, our permanent exhibit spaces are filled with glimpses of life here from prehistoric stone tools to contemporary sculptures. \nWe’re at 110 Wilson Street (between Finders Keepers and Hotel Floyd) with ample parking and walking access off the town Heritage Trail. Admission is free.
