DESCRIPTION:Virginia’s Blue Ridge Music Festival will sponsor a live performance of Vivaldi’s beloved “Four Seasons” complete concerto with poetry. This special concert features the Virtuoso String Orchestra conducted by Maestro David Stewart Wiley\, artistic director\, and conductor of the Roanoke Symphony. Internationally renowned violinist Akemi Takayama will be featured with the orchestra. Palladio by Karl Jenkins and Holberg Suite by Edward Grieg will also be performed. The festival will continue on Monday 6:30pm with emerging young musicians from the area\, students of Mike Mitchell and Julee Hickox with the performance concluding with Wiley and Takayama playing well known repertoire.

The jam is open and free for everyone. \n12:00pm – 1:00pm: Old-Time Beginner Jam in the Floyd Country Store Community Room\n1:30pm – 3:30pm: Old-Time Music Jam\n4:00pm – 5:30pm: Bluegrass Jam \nJoin us for old time beginner jams from 12:00 to 1:00 in the Floyd Country Store Community Room. The old time jam session starts at 1:30 and is hosted by a different string band each week\, leading tunes at a moderate speed. Traditional instruments and dancers welcome! At 4:00 the bluegrass jam kicks off\, with hosts who lead the group in bluegrass songs and tunes. Song selections and solos pass around the circle. Sunday Music Jams are a great way to see traditional music the way it has been played and handed down for centuries\, amongst friends and family in a community setting.

Red Weather toured from 1993 to 1999 and released 3 projects before coming off the road and played occasionally till the passing of drummer Thomas Wilson in 2015. Since then the three have played together in a few other projects and sat-in a lot with each other’s more recent projects. \nOver the last decade they talked a lot about bringing Red Weather’s music back\, but life always seemed to lead to other opportunities. Well\, with a little coaxing and a lot of intent the three primary writers of Red Weather have reunited to play and see what happens. They are only able to undergo such a daring adventure with their new bandmates and rhythm section\, Jay Gladden and Matt Leonard.

Eddie will teach Round Peak/Galax style tunes with attention to bowing. \nCost is $35. Workshop is a minimum of 75 minutes in length.\nThis workshop is for intermediate and advanced fiddlers. \nEddie Bond grew up in Fries\, Virginia\, where the fiddle and banjo are still welded in a Virginia dance tradition. Eddie is the fiddler and lead singer in the New Ballards Branch Bogtrotters\, and is the winner of many fiddle contests\, including the Galax Old Fiddlers’ Convention. The old time jam session starts at 1:30 and is hosted by a different string band each week\, leading tunes at a moderate speed. Traditional instruments and dancers welcome! At 4:00 the bluegrass jam kicks off\, with hosts who lead the group in bluegrass songs and tunes. Song selections and solos pass around the circle. Sunday Music Jams are a great way to see traditional music the way it has been played and handed down for centuries\, amongst friends and family in a community setting.
