The old time jam session starts at 1:30 and is hosted by a different string band each week\, leading tunes at a moderate speed. Traditional instruments and dancers welcome! At 4:00 the bluegrass jam kicks off\, with hosts who lead the group in bluegrass songs and tunes. Song selections and solos pass around the circle. Sunday Music Jams are a great way to see traditional music the way it has been played and handed down for centuries\, amongst friends and family in a community setting.

DESCRIPTION:Join us at The Floyd Country Store on Saturday\, September 13\, 2025 at 7:00 pm for a Saturday Old Time Dance with NEW BALLARDS BRANCH BOGTROTTERS.\nAdmission is $12 at the door or online at the link below – $8 for friends and fixtures (with a card.) \n\n\nIn 1986 a group of musicians from the Galax\, VA area formed a new band. New Ballards Branch Bogtrotters took their name\, in part from the original Bogtrotters of the 1930’s also because band leader Dennis Hall lives on Ballards Branch. Dennis’ home is very close to the home of Uncle Eck Dunford who played fiddle in the original band. The other members of the original Bogtrotters were Uncle Wade Ward\, his brother\, Davy Crockett Ward\, and nephew Fields Ward\, and Doctor Davis. They won the very first fiddlers Convention in Galax setting a precedence for all that follow in their footsteps. New Ballard’s Branch Bogtrotters continue to play in the traditional Appalachian string-band style often playing for square dances around the region. Rounding out the Bogtrotters lineup are: Eddie Bond on fiddle\, Dennis Hall on guitar\, Josh Ellis on clawhammer banjo\, Bonnie Bond on bass and Caroline Noel Beverley on mandolin. Old time music is alive and well\, and continues to attract fans of all ages. New Ballards Branch Bogtrotters remain a driving force in carrying the traditional music of the Virginia/Carolina Blue Ridge into the new millennium. SUMMARY:Tincture Making Workshop: Kidneys & Urinary Tract featuring Goldenrod
DESCRIPTION:Liberty Tea- Kidney and Urinary Tract Class & Goldenrod Tincture Making Workshop\, September 13\, 2024 from 12-2 pm at the Floyd EcoVillage Farm Store. \nThis class will focus on the kidneys\, urinary tract\, the organs involved\, and how to use herbs to soothe\, tonify\, and clear-up infections.  Urinary Tract Infections (UTI) are any bacterial infections of the bladder\, urethra\, or kidneys\, and are common in men\, women\, and children.  They are also one of the number one reasons antibiotics are prescribed.  One of the most plentiful\, beautiful\, yellow\, late summer herbs by roadsides and fields is the amazing Goldenrod.  We will take an in-depth look at the history\, folklore\, and medicinal uses of Goldenrod; and everyone will get to make a Goldenrod tincture to take home. \n(Among other uses – Goldenrod is a soothing tonic for the entire genito-urinary tract; useful as diuretic and antiseptic for treating bladder/kidney infections.)\nFYI – Goldenrod has a reputation for causing hay fever\, but allergies are rarely caused by insect-pollinated plants\, as their pollen is too big and heavy to get into your respiratory system. More inconspicuous wind-pollinated plants tend to be the problem. Ragweed has inconspicuous green flowers that bloom right about the time goldenrod does and it spreads its pollen on the wind so you can inhale it and sneeze. \nThe workshop would entail: \n-Small Plant ID Walk and discussion in EcoVillage Learning Garden (weather permitting) \n-Rules on Harvesting Sustainably and at peak potency \n-Information session on Kidney/Urinary Tract & the folklore\, history\, and medicinal uses of Goldenrod. \n-Tincture making class (Tinctures defined\, why tinctures\, how to make your own)\n-Hands on – each attendee makes a tincture to bring home (will need to macerate and be pressed at home)- plant material for tincture making will be supplied by I-TAL Acres. \nSupplies: \n-Bowls/Cutting boards/Knives/Scissors to coarsely chop herbs before making tincture  (we will have some scissors/pruners/cutting boards\, but bring if you have/remember)\n-Mason jar or other jar to make tincture (we will have them on hand\, but bring one if you have -peanut butter/pasta jar size is usually ideal) \n-Sunglasses/hat/sunscreen/water bottle – we will be outside at least part of the time
