The old time jam session starts at 1:30 and is hosted by a different string band each week\, leading tunes at a moderate speed. Traditional instruments and dancers welcome! At 4:00 the bluegrass jam kicks off\, with hosts who lead the group in bluegrass songs and tunes. Song selections and solos pass around the circle. Sunday Music Jams are a great way to see traditional music the way it has been played and handed down for centuries\, amongst friends and family in a community setting.

SUMMARY:Annual Floyd Rotary Chili Cookoff
DESCRIPTION:This event is a fundraiser for Floyd County EMS Department. Floyd Volunteer Fire Department\, and the Floyd County Sheriff’s Department. These three organizations will compete with each other for best chili bragging rights as determined by a panel of pre-selected judges as well as the People’s Choice award. The general public is invited to purchase one dollar tickets to use for voting for their favorite chili. Free chili tastings with drinks and ice cream for sale. Donations encouraged. Tasting starts at 5pm and judging starts at 6pm. Please note that three organizations are the only ones bringing chili to be judged. The Chili Cookoff is part of a larger event at the same site = Citizens Coop’s Free Community Concert.

DESCRIPTION:Join Floyd County Historical Society President Gino Williams on a tour of the Jacksonville Burial Ground\, notable for its historical signicance as well as its unparalled view of the region’s skyline. \nWhen the old Jacksonville Cemetery in town (located off the street in the first block of South Locust St.) began to reach capacity in the early 1850s\, J.P. Proffitt conveyed “2 acres and 36 poles” of land to Z. T. Dobyns and others to establish the new cemetery. \nWe will meet at the Gazebo\, learn about the Burial Ground’s history\, and discuss the lives of some of those buried there. (The Gazebo is near the highest point of the tract\, towards the front corner\, towards the center of town.)

Blending incredibly diverse instrumentation with broad\, deep musical influences\, allows the band to perform a plethora of widely accessible\, danceable music.\nThe Dr. Bacon Live Experience is truly a spectacle to behold\, bringing the audience on a musical journey that lulls and spikes in energy\, caressing ears with lush beauty and whipping crowds into a tribal romp\, shaking booties and shedding inhibitions. This manic versatility ensures that no matter what genre of music you identify with most\, you will hear something that resonates. Dr. Bacon started playing together in 2012 on King Street in Boone as a 3 piece busking with acoustic bluegrass\, folk\, and 90s pop/rock/hip-hop influenced music. Several lineup changes over the years and a move to Asheville have refined and redirected the bands sound\, incorporating funk\, rock\, soul\, psychedelic and world music to Appalachian influences. The blending of several elements of these genres (often within the same song) along with unique instrumentation is the real Bacon flavor. \nST. VITH is an eclectic indie rock band based in the Finger Lakes region in New York. Comprised of members Oliver Burdo\, Kyle Ingersoll\, Quintin Olix and Jordan Seager. The group creates original psychedelic indie rock music by drawing from a diverse array of influences including Wilco\, Radiohead and Animal Collective. The quartet combines performance elements ranging from acoustic instruments to synthetic electronica sounds.
