Janiah Allen holds down the low end on the bass\, providing a combination of steady root notes\, syncopated rhythms\, and melodic fills\, adding depth and movement to the music. Janiah’s son\, Nyo Allen\, offers his exceptional drumming skills\, bringing life to Father Sun’s beats and creating a tight\, cohesive groove with his father on bass. On lead guitar\, Aram Skenderian adds a touch of virtuosity to the mix with tasty solos that complement the rhythmic elements and enhance the overall vibe. DESCRIPTION:Old Church Gallery proudly presents our 2024 exhibit “There’s the Buffalo!” Over twenty local artists share their personal visions of Floyd County’s legendary Buffalo Mountain using textiles\, photography\, painting\, and glasswork. Also included in the exhibit are memories of early 20th Century life around Buffalo Mountain taken from 1999-2001 interviews with longtime residents.\nAs the Cultural Arts Museum for Floyd County\, our permanent exhibit spaces are filled with glimpses of life here from prehistoric stone tools to contemporary sculptures.\nWe’re at 110 Wilson Street (between Finders Keepers and Hotel Floyd) with ample parking and walking access off the town Heritage Trail. Admission is free.

Tickets are $30 general admission\, $35 reserved seating\, available for sale online and in the store. \n\nABOUT WAYNE HENDERSON\nWayne Henderson was born in Grayson County\, Virginia\, where he lives today. He is a full-time instrument builder and musician\, specializing in building guitars\, and playing in a unique finger-picking style. Though he has lived in Virginia all of his life\, Henderson has played countless performances in Western North Carolina\, been a member of Western North Carolina bands\, and influenced many regional musicians\, through both his music and craft. He developed a unique style of using a thumbpick and fingerpicks\, making his playing sound like flatpicking\, with fast\, accurate\, and clean notes. \nHenderson’s father and uncle were musicians who played with Estil Ball\, an admired finger-style guitar player from the area who influenced Wayne’s playing. Inspired by Ball\, Wayne ordered a cheap guitar from the Sears catalogue. Disappointed with that instrument\, he decided to build his own guitar\, out of a used dresser drawer bottom. When he struggled to find the proper glue for his newly crafted instrument\, he sought out the advice of a neighbor\, Albert Hash\, who built fiddles and other instruments. With Hash’s encouragement\, Wayne continued working on his instrument building. \nHe sold his second guitar in exchange for some tools and cash. “Ever since\,” he says\, “somebody’s wanted one as soon as I get it finished.” For years he worked as a rural mail carrier\, spending his off-time performing and building guitars and other instruments. He has become so famous that he has a long backlog of orders placed for guitars. Henderson has built guitars for Doc Watson\, Gillian Welch\, Peter Rowan\, and Eric Clapton. \nWayne Henderson has trained several apprentices\, taught intensive workshops\, and given informal discussions about instrument building and repair. He has been a regularly featured instructor at the Augusta Heritage workshops in Elkins\, West Virginia. \nHenderson is an accomplished performer. He has won more than 300 ribbons at fiddlers’ convention competitions. He was featured as part of the Masters of the Steel Guitar tours\, and has traveled internationally. Wayne has performed at Carnegie Hall\, the Smithsonian Institution\, on A Prairie Home Companion\, and for the 1992 presidential inauguration. He has hosted the annual Wayne C. Henderson Music Festival and Guitar Competition since 1995. Winning the competition is said to be the only way to skip ahead of the waiting list for a Henderson Guitar. \n\nBUY TICKETS ONLINE

DESCRIPTION:Old Church Gallery proudly presents our 2024 exhibit “There’s the Buffalo!” Over twenty local artists share their personal visions of Floyd County’s legendary Buffalo Mountain using textiles\, photography\, painting\, and glasswork. Also included in the exhibit are memories of early 20th Century life around Buffalo Mountain taken from 1999-2001 interviews with longtime residents.\nAs the Cultural Arts Museum for Floyd County\, our permanent exhibit spaces are filled with glimpses of life here from prehistoric stone tools to contemporary sculptures.\nWe’re at 110 Wilson Street (between Finders Keepers and Hotel Floyd) with ample parking and walking access off the town Heritage Trail. SUMMARY:Floyd Empty Bowls
DESCRIPTION:Want to have your soup and keep your bowl too? The annual Empty Bowls fundraising event will be held on Sunday\, April 28\, 2024 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Floyd County High School. Empty Bowls supports NRCA’s Floyd County Backpack Program. The Backpack Program has served Floyd County students in all five schools and NRCA Head Start this school year with over 3\,800 meals provided each month to students that could likely otherwise go hungry over the weekend.\nEach adult ticket holder can pick out a handmade ceramic bowl made by a local potter. All guests receive soup\, bread\, dessert and a drink to enjoy with live music. Ticket prices are $25 for adults\, $10 for children age 6-12 (no bowl)\, age 5 and under are free (no bowl). Ticket are available to purchase in person at multiple sales locations in Floyd and online. Ticket sales information will be posted on the Floyd Back Program page – https://www.facebook.com/FloydBackPack/\nIf you are unable to attend the event\, but would like to contribute\, donors may send tax-deductible contributions for the Backpack Program to New River Community Action\, PO Box 849\, Floyd\, VA 24091 or deliver donations to the NRCA Emergency Assistance Office at 323 Floyd Highway South. Donors should make checks payable to NRCA and note Floyd County Backpack Program (FCBP) in the memo section. DESCRIPTION:Free show ~ \nSalem\, Virginia based rock band War Chile released their eponymous debut album on August 1\, 2023. War Chile is a seasoned band of four established musicians\, one and all a stalwart of their instrument and sound. They are Brian Gray on guitar and vocals\, Henry Lazenby on lead guitar\, Jay Gladden on bass\, and Mason Jennelle on drums. Their playing is layered and fluent\, moody and exacting\, cogent and cutthroat\, but most impressively\, it’s never pretentious\, never austere\, and always in service to the song. There are no extravagant solos\, desultory flourishes\, or inadvertent shifts. The song is king. If The Stooges are raw power\, War Chile is curated power.
