The couple causes an upheaval when they decide to audition for the high school musical. Although many students resent the threat posed to the “status quo\,” Troy and Gabriella’s alliance might just open the door for others to shine as well. \nPerformed by The June Bug Center after-school program\, Musical Theatre for Teens. Students began practicing in August to bring the show to life in June 2024. Tickets are by donation starting at $7 and all proceeds go to The June Bug Center and it’s mission to bring the arts to Floyd. \nPerformances are June 7th at 6pm\, 8th at 2pm\, and 9th at 2pm. DESCRIPTION:Old Church Gallery proudly presents our 2024 exhibit “There’s the Buffalo!” Over twenty local artists share their personal visions of Floyd County’s legendary Buffalo Mountain using textiles\, photography\, painting\, and glasswork. Also included in the exhibit are memories of early 20th Century life around Buffalo Mountain taken from 1999-2001 interviews with longtime residents.\nAs the Cultural Arts Museum for Floyd County\, our permanent exhibit spaces are filled with glimpses of life here from prehistoric stone tools to contemporary sculptures. \nWe’re at 110 Wilson Street (between Finders Keepers and Hotel Floyd) with ample parking and walking access off the town Heritage Trail. Admission is free.

DESCRIPTION:The Handmade Music School presents Country Style Singing with Jamie Collins at The Floyd Country Store on Sunday\, June 2\, 2024 from 4:00 – 6:00 PM. Cost is $30. \nCountry Style Singing with Jamie Collins\nABOUT THE WORKSHOP:\nThis singing workshop will focus on a couple traditional Carter family tunes such as “Keep on the Sunny Side” and “Will the Circle Be Unbroken”. In addition to the traditional songs the class will focus on the stylings of the late Bluegrass musicians Dave Evans and Dr. Ralph Stanley. I want to dive into the songwriting of the Stanley Brothers and Dave Evans and the delivery of Dave’s “Pretty Green Hills” and The Stanley Brothers’ “Jacob’s Vision”. The way these masters delivered the songs with so much feeling through their singing is how I strive to write\, play\, and sing music. \nAbout Jamie:\nBorn and raised encircled by the rich history of mountain music traditions of the Blue Ridge\, Jamie Collins carries tradition forward with her own fresh take on bluegrass\, old-time\, and country music. \nHailing from Bristol\, Tennessee known as the Birthplace of Country Music\, Collins was born to a mountain music family featuring her flatpicking virtuoso father\, Tony Collins. Instilled with a deep love and appreciation for the local  traditions at a young age\, Collins grew up attending festivals and fiddlers’ conventions\, where she witnessed some of the best in old-time and bluegrass. Inspired by the musicians in her life\, Collins would go on to pick up several instruments\, including the guitar and upright bass. \nIn addition to the instruments that she plays\, Collins is also a celebrated Appalachian singer\, which has made her a sought after harmony singer on other artists’ projects. He was a\nvoice major in college and has played in numerous bands all over the country. He played on the college circuit for years with the South Star Band\, and in the New\nOrleans band Delacroix for eight years. For the last twenty years he has played in the Houston\,\nTexas bands The Levee Busters and Whiskey Brisket as well as doing solo acoustic work. Keith\nhas been working both on tours and in the studio on and off with California-based songwriter\nChristie McCarthy for nearly 30 years. Keith has also worked as a guitarist in the studio with\nmany artists.\nKeith’s main influences are all over the musical map\, from Eric Clapton to Doc Watson to\nMichael Hedges to James McMurtry to Mark Knopfler and most points in between. Keith’s\nshows typically cover quite a few genres\, and usually contain a surprise or two. As one listener\nput it\, “Keith is well known in both Houston\, TX and Southwest Virginia as one of the slickest\npickers around and a pretty gifted song-writer as well.” No matter whether it’s a solo show or a\nband gig\, we’re gonna have us a time! \nDan O’Donnell – Bass/Vocals\nDan O’Donnell (Dano) is a veteran bassist. He has played a wide variety of musical styles\nincluding rock\, soul\, country\, funk\, blues and more. He has performed and recorded with a wide\nrange of artists including Matt Ramsey of the award-winning Nashville country band Old\nDominion. Dano has also performed in opening acts for bands as diverse as the Red-Hot Chili\nPeppers and the legendary Nighthawks. Based in Southwest Virginia\, he has held down the low\nend for the popular blues bands The Fat Daddy Band and Little Rodger and the Cheap Thrills\, as\nwell as the Motown classic soul / variety band Heat of the Night.\nDano lists his main bass influences as Donald “Duck” Dunn (Blues Brothers\, Booker T and the\nMG’s)\, James Jamerson (Motown) and Leland Sklar (James Taylor\, Lyle Lovett\, Phil Collins\,\netc.). He has studied at Victor Wooten’s Bass Nature camp where he participated in master\nclasses led by some of the world’s finest bassists including Victor Wooten\, Chuck Rainey\,\nGerald Veasley\, Oteil Burbridge and Steve Bailey among others. \nKeith Chinault – Drums/Vocals\nKeith has been playing and singing in bands for over 40 years. Tickets are $32 general admission\, $36 reserved seating\, available for sale online and in the store. \n\nABOUT MARK & MAGGIE O’CONNOR\nMark O’Connor began his creative journey at the feet of American fiddling legend Benny Thomasson\, and the iconic French jazz violinist Stéphane Grappelli. Now\, at age 59\, he has melded these influences into a new American classical music\, and is perpetuating his vision of an American School of String Playing. Mr. O’Connor has won three Grammys\, seven CMA awards as well as several national fiddle\, guitar and mandolin champion titles. His distinguished career includes representing the United States Information Agency in cultural diplomacy to six continents and performing in front of several U.S. presidents including being invited to the White House by President Ronald Reagan to perform as a teen. \nAfter recording a series of albums for Rounder and Warner Bros including his multiple Grammy-winning New Nashville Cats\, his recordings for Sony Classical with Yo-Yo Ma\, Appalachia Waltz and Appalachian Journey sold a million CDs and gained O’Connor worldwide recognition as a leading proponent of a new American musical idiom. \nMr. O’Connor’s Fiddle Concerto released on Warner Bros. has become the most-performedviolin concerto composed in the last 50 years. On his own OMAC Records label\, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra recorded his sweeping Americana Symphony while his groundbreaking 9th concerto\, The Improvised Violin Concerto was recorded in Boston Symphony Hall. The MarkO’Connor Band consisting of family members (wife\, son and daughter-in-law) debuted at #1 on Billboard Magazine’s bluegrass album chart and their first album Coming Home won a Grammy in 2017. The band released a live album called A Musical Legacy. Mr. O’Connor’s new solo guitar album Markology II is a 42-year sequel to the first one released when he was 16. Bela Fleck writes the album notes for the new CD. Maggie was a member of the O’Connor Band\, whose debut album Coming Home won a Grammy Award for “Best Bluegrass Album of the Year” in 2017 at the 59th Grammy Awards. Along with the Mark O’Connor Duo\, Maggie has also frequently performed in her husband’s ensembles ranging from Hot Swing and An Appalachian Christmas\, a hit concert tour taking place each holiday season. \nMaggie continues to work as co-director with Mark at O’Connor Method String Camps featuring the lesson book series that is rising in popularity each year. Maggie also makes unique violin peg necklaces to raise funds for scholarships at these camps. She is also featured on her and her husband’s album Duo\, in which David McGee of Deep Roots Magazine claims; \n“As a technician and as an expressive player\, she is formidable\, has it all. What I find so special about her\, apart from the sheer soulfulness abundant in the music she makes\, is her uncanny sense of playing off of and with Mark\, knowing when to assert herself and when to be empathetic and supportive.” \nGrowing up in a musical family in the suburbs of Atlanta GA\, Maggie started playing the violin at age 7 in a family band. Concurrently\, she took classical violin lessons with Larisa Morgulis\, a distinguished graduate of the Odessa Conservatory in Ukraine. Playing music with her family band is where Maggie began to develop an ear for arranging\, recording\, group playing\, and improvisation; skills she has embraced throughout her musical life. In her early years\, she was a member of numerous bluegrass and rock bands while also being a member and soloist with Atlanta’s top three youth orchestras. \nAfter growing up playing American and classical music styles\, Maggie continued her professional training at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University where she studied with violinist Herbert Greenberg earning the Bachelor and the Master of Music degrees in violin performance. She was also a finalist in the Marbury Prize Competition for Undergraduate Violinists while finishing up her Bachelor’s degree with distinction and had the honor of being accepted into the Five Year Advanced Degree Program along with being awarded the Career Development Grant while at Peabody. She was the recipient of full tuition scholarships while studying at the Aspen Music Festival and School for three years. Maggie currently resides in North Carolina with her husband and plays a beautifully handcrafted 1996 violin made by Lukas Wronski. \n\nBUY TICKETS ONLINE

DESCRIPTION:Old Church Gallery proudly presents our 2024 exhibit “There’s the Buffalo!” Over twenty local artists share their personal visions of Floyd County’s legendary Buffalo Mountain using textiles\, photography\, painting\, and glasswork. Also included in the exhibit are memories of early 20th Century life around Buffalo Mountain taken from 1999-2001 interviews with longtime residents.\nAs the Cultural Arts Museum for Floyd County\, our permanent exhibit spaces are filled with glimpses of life here from prehistoric stone tools to contemporary sculptures. \nWe’re at 110 Wilson Street (between Finders Keepers and Hotel Floyd) with ample parking and walking access off the town Heritage Trail. Admission is free.
