But Willard is also a talented songwriter\, and his music is collected all over the world. \nScott Freeman grew up in a rich musical area of Mount Airy\, North Carolina. In addition to his work as a professional musician\, Scott is also a traditional music teacher and musical instructor for Pete Wernick\, a.k.a Dr. Banjo. Scott lends his talents to many groups. The McPeak Brothers\, The Crowe Brothers\, The Mountain Home Bluegrass Boys\, and to countless other musicians call on Scott for assistance.

We know culinary herbs improve the taste of our foods\, but did you know they contain many health\nbenefits and medicinal uses? Food as medicine\, medicine as food. The ancient thieves during the time of the\nplague knew this\, and their use of culinary herbs as immune booster became legendary. Let us harvest the\npower of summer as an immune booster for later! \nEd and Maya Skopal of I-TAL Acres will be leading a workshop which will involve identifying\, learning about\, and responsibly harvesting medicinal plants with a focus on tinctures. They will explore the medicinal folk uses and history of some of our main culinary herbs\, and everyone will get to make their own ‘Thieves’ tincture and come away with the knowledge of how to make their own tinctures\, salves\, and infused oils.. \nNote: Please bring sunglasses/sunscreen/hat\, and water bottle as the class will take place outside (weather permitting). -Bowl\,Cutting board\, Knife/Scissors to process herbs before making tincture (we will have some\nscissors/pruners/cutting boards\, but bring if you have/remember)\n-Mason jar or other jar to make tincture (we usually have enough on hand\, but bring one if you have -peanut bar\njar size is usually ideal) \n$29.00

Eli Wildman\, an awesome mandolin player from Floyd will play mandolin like on this album. He just finished his music studies at Berkey University in Boston MA. Josh Ratcliffe will play Banjo.Starroot\, a life time folk musician\, will be playing her beloved Martin guitar and singing her songs. She will tell stories about why she recorded this album and stories about how the songs came to her in her Floyd County home. She moved here from Germany and has lived here since 1986. She will also perform some other songs she wrote\, along with 2 Bluegrass songs led by Shannon.

Also included in the exhibit are memories of early 20th Century life around Buffalo Mountain taken from 1999-2001 interviews with longtime residents.\nAs the Cultural Arts Museum for Floyd County\, our permanent exhibit spaces are filled with glimpses of life here from prehistoric stone tools to contemporary sculptures. \nWe’re at 110 Wilson Street (between Finders Keepers and Hotel Floyd) with ample parking and walking access off the town Heritage Trail. Admission is free.

DESCRIPTION:Free show ~ \nFirst time hitting our stage! Born out of a love for blues\, Rock & Roll\, honky tonk country\, rockabilly\, and other classic American music\, Ian Gilliam & The FireKings have evolved into a group that will undoubtedly surprise listeners of all ages and musical tastes. With an intoxicating mix of danceable tunes and musically captivating moments\, The Firekings have become one of the region’s favorite acts for all types of audiences. \nIan Gilliam – Guitar and Vocals\nIan began playing guitar at a young age and like many guitarists\, focused on blues music early in his career. After seeing virtuoso Danny Gatton perform live at age 15\, it was clear that there was much more to be explored. Gatton approached a 19-year-old Ian with an offer to produce a studio recording for him. Danny’s rigorous touring schedule prevented this from happening immediately\, and his passing a few months later meant the collaboration would never take place. For the 30 years since\, Ian has continued to expand his horizons with the instrument\, delving into different musical styles which he has worked into The FireKings’ performances. Ian is also the main vocalist in the band and delivers each song\, cover or original\, with genuine feel. \nCharlie Bell – Pedal Steel and Vocal\nWith deep roots in classic country\, bluegrass\, and Rock & Roll\, Charlie controls the elusive pedal steel with absolute confidence. His extensive knowledge of the instrument allows him to layer his parts into the songs and really step out on his solos\, to the pleasure of musicians and non-musicians in the audience. Whether playing an old country tune or adapting the instrument to blues or rock\, Charlie’s playing adds something not often heard from a pedal steel player. Charlie is an extremely well-rounded musician who can fit into any setting and his versatility shines in The FireKings. Charlie also lends his fantastic harmony singing to the group and sings lead on a number of songs. \nSteve Riggs – Bass\nThere are a rare few bassists who have what Steve has. He has been the go-to bass player for roots\, blues\, and Rock & Roll bands since he began playing with The Charlottesville Blues Allstars at age 14. Touring nationally and internationally with the likes of guitar greats Tom Principato\, Evan Johns\, and Tinsley Ellis\, Steve has proven that laying down a fat low-end bed and locking in with the drummer is where it’s at. \nEddie Hall – Drums\nWith six decades of professional drumming under his belt\, Eddie has been the big beat behind numerous well-known acts including Dave Witt and Shenandoah\, Jimmy Fortune of Statler Brothers fame\, and countless regional and national touring bands. With a deep knowledge of American music and a spot-on meter\, Eddie lays the perfect foundation for The FireKings’ varied setlist.

Three of the four members decided to form the band and sought out to fill the remaining spots\, mandolin and guitar\, seeking instrumentalists who were also strong vocalists. Wow\, did that ever work in their favor. \nThe members of Fast Track are not only all highly decorated in awards from the IBMA and SPBGMA organizations\, but are also veteran players on the Grand Ole Opry stage\, across the United States\, Canada\, and throughout Europe. Between all of the gentlemen\, they have performed with\, recorded on and participated in countless projects with bluegrass and country music royalty throughout their most impressive careers. \nThe Fast Track members are: Dale Perry (banjo\, bass vocals)\, Steve Day (fiddle\, vocals)\, Duane Sparks (guitar\, vocals)\, Shayne Bartley (mandolin\, vocals) and Randy Barnes (bass\, vocals).
