With roots in the jam and blues scene in St. Louis\, KW has been churning up grooves for more than a quarter century. A blend of Rock\, Blues\, Jazz\, Country\, Bluegrass\, Funk\, and World Beat\, the Willy has been doing\nthe “Jam-Band” thing since there was barely a term. A set of KW is an eclectic and improvisatory boogieing blend of organic spontaneity that takes the audience on a journey through a ménage of sound and color\, space and time. Every show is unique. Every show is different. And every show brings an experience blended from the soulful and powerful delivery of well-crafted original music and choice covers. \nThe group boasts an all-star cast of seasoned musicians: \nDave “Chopper” Campbell\, guitar and vocals\, formerly of Dark Star Orchestra\, Dancing Earth Reunion (Blue Dixie)\, Haw Patch\nMountain Boys\, The Schwag\, and has also played with such greats as Rock founder and legend Chuck Berry\, Grammy winning artist Jim Lauderdale\, and Mike Gordon of Phish. \nBrian Jones\, bass\, Longtime friend and former Kerosene Willy bassist will be sitting in for this week’s show. \nJohn McBroom\, guitar and vocals\, formerly of Red Weather until 1999\, Blue Mule\, GOTE\, M.C. Broom & The Jam! Recently Leonard Blush\nand the Camelcals has taken a bit of John’s stage time\, and he has shared the stage with Keller Williams\, members of Leftover Salmon\, members of Big Daddy Love\, and Caitlin Krisko. \nTimbo Sims\, keyboardist\, performer\, and songwriter\, of The ThrillBillyz\, The Buck and Griz Show\, and M.C. Broom & The Jam! resides in Franklin County\, VA. Timbo is a founding member of the 90’s jam band Red Weather and has since been a part of a number of live\nperformances\, session recordings\, and musical projects. \nJason Tice\, on drums\, has been bringing the back beat to Southwest Virginia bands like Timewave Zero\, The Buck & Griz Show\, Flight One\, and Gary & the Brewers for the last 20 years. He’s a staple in the region and involved in a myriad of projects in the area.

DESCRIPTION:“The Heron’s Journey” by Adam Booth- Floyd Living Traditions Festival Kick Off Event \n“The Heron’s Journey” is a 60-75 minute story told without intermission. It is a neo-traditional\, original story about a young boy who finds his true place in life while on a journey during which he transitions into a great blue heron. “The Heron’s Journey” is primarily about identity and creation. Some listeners hear it through the lens of power dynamics\, listening to intuition\, and environmentalism or access to the natural world. Audiences have been captivated by this tale and find it speaks to them on a variety of very personal levels. All of Adam’s stories are family-friendly in content\, however “The Heron’s Journey” is intended for mature listeners. Adam collaborated with three West Virginia artists during the creation of this story. \n​​\n​Adam Booth (he/him) is the 2022 West Virginia Folk Artist of the Year\, awarded at the Governor’s Arts Awards. Adam blends traditional mountain folklore\, music\, and an awareness of contemporary Appalachia to create original\, forward-thinking story artistry. Adam’s new multidisciplinary program The Heron’s Journey has been selected for the 2024-2025 Mid Atlantic Arts Touring Roster. As a nationally touring artist\, his professional telling appearances include premiere storytelling events across the United States\, including the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage\, the International Storytelling Center\, the National Storytelling Festival\, the Timpanogos Storytelling Festival\, the Appalachian Studies Association Conference\, the National Storytelling Conference\, the National Academy of Medicine\, and as a Spoken Word Resident at the Banff Centre (Alberta\, Canada). He is a member of the Recording Academy and his recordings have received many national honors\, including a Parents’ Choice Gold Award. DESCRIPTION:Old Church Gallery proudly presents our 2024 exhibit “There’s the Buffalo!” Over twenty local artists share their personal visions of Floyd County’s legendary Buffalo Mountain using textiles\, photography\, painting\, and glasswork. Also included in the exhibit are memories of early 20th Century life around Buffalo Mountain taken from 1999-2001 interviews with longtime residents.\nAs the Cultural Arts Museum for Floyd County\, our permanent exhibit spaces are filled with glimpses of life here from prehistoric stone tools to contemporary sculptures.\nWe’re at 110 Wilson Street (between Finders Keepers and Hotel Floyd) with ample parking and walking access off the town Heritage Trail. Admission is free.

DESCRIPTION:Join us at The Floyd Country Store on Saturday\, August 17\, 2024 at 7:00 pm for a live concert with the Larry Stephenson and his band. Tickets are $20 general admission\, $25 reserved seating\, available for sale online and in the store. \n\nLARRY STEPHENSON BAND\nHighly regarded as one of Bluegrass music’s most recognizable and finest high lead and tenor vocalist\, Larry Stephenson has been headlining festivals and concerts for 30 years. He formed The Larry Stephenson Band in 1989 while living in his home state of Virginia.\nLarry’s crystal-clear tenor voice has provided a musical home for some of the finest sidemen in contemporary bluegrass history. Many appearances on the Grand Ole Opry and RFD-TV has made The Larry Stephenson Band a fan favorite across the US and Canada.\nBorn in Harrisonburg\, VA and raised in King George\, VA\, Larry’s Dad put a mandolin in his hand at the age of 5 and by the age of 11\, Larry cut his first record. Graduating high school in 1976\, Larry and his Dad had a very popular regional band for 3 years\, performing at festivals\, concerts and regulars at The Wheeling Jamboree in Wheeling\, WV. From there\, he worked with Cliff Waldron\, Leon Morris while soaking up the Washington\, DC rich musical scene. In 1979\, Larry went to work with Bill Harrell and The Virginians for 4 1⁄2 years and then in June of 1983 went to work with The Bluegrass Cardinals and stayed for 5-1⁄2 year. That band configuration is often referred to as one of the “classic lineups of the Bluegrass Cardinals”. Larry also credits the rich music scene of Virginia and Washington\, DC for much of his musical success\, having seen and heard the first-generation bluegrass performers in person and on radio.\nWhile Larry Stephenson is best known as a touring musician whose voice sets a standard of melody\, clarity and storytelling\, he has had an active and well-awarded recording career. Starting his recording career for Webco Records of Virginia and then 18 years with Pinecastle Records\, releasing 18 albums during that period. Signature songs in Larry Stephenson’s vast catalog in that period include “Patches\,” “Yes\, I See God\,” “Clinch Mountain Mystery\,” “Many Hills of Time\,” “The Knoxville Girl\,” “The Knoxville Boy\,” “The Pretty Blue Dress\,” “I Should’ve Called” and “The Violet and The Rose.” \nThroughout his 30 years of fronting his own band\, and over 40 years as a major touring performer\, Larry Stephenson has been well-recognized and awarded by fans and his peers in the bluegrass industry. With a move to Nashville\, TN in 1992\, the band became fast regulars on the Grand Ole Opry. In 1996\, the Virginia Folk Music Association inducted Stephenson into The Virginia Country Music Hall of Fame. Since that time\, he has garnered numerous IBMA and SPBGMA nominations and awards. In 2018\, The Society for The Preservation of Bluegrass Music in America (SPBGMA) inducted Larry in their Hall of Greats.\nLarry makes his home on the outskirts of Nashville\, TN with his wife Dreama and their daughter. \n\nBuy Tickets Online

One of the original members\, Mr. Steve Virts\, is first in the lineup\, along with a long time member and local legend Mr. Al Coffey\, aka the Swiss Army Musician. Rounding out this group is the newest member Mr. Charlie Reid\, one of the original and talented members of the group Stairwell. We enjoy performing many of your favorite songs\, adding our own unique twists with our strong vocals and harmonies. We are blessed with a number of original songs that have become favorites to many of our fans. We are not a dance band\, but if the urge hits you\, please feel free to do so. We like folks to grab a cool beverage and sit back and enjoy our music. Once again\, THANK YOU for supporting us over the past 40+ years. \nSpecial Thanks to the original Rarely Available Band formed in 1979 with Tim Caldwell\, Wayne Fulp and Steve Virts\, adding drummer Dave Hartman (current drummer for Southern Culture On The Skids) and bassist\, Dan Altic to complete the group in 1980. The very talented Brett Reynolds was later added as our drummer to fill Dave’s spot. This group continued performing for many years\, but stayed true to its name Rarely Available.

We know culinary herbs improve the taste of our foods\, but did you know they contain many health\nbenefits and medicinal uses? Food as medicine\, medicine as food. The ancient thieves during the time of the\nplague knew this\, and their use of culinary herbs as immune booster became legendary. Let us harvest the\npower of summer as an immune booster for later! \nEd and Maya Skopal of I-TAL Acres will be leading a workshop which will involve identifying\, learning about\, and responsibly harvesting medicinal plants with a focus on tinctures. She will tell stories about why she recorded this album and stories about how the songs came to her in her Floyd County home. She moved here from Germany and has lived here since 1986. DESCRIPTION:Old Church Gallery proudly presents our 2024 exhibit “There’s the Buffalo!” Over twenty local artists share their personal visions of Floyd County’s legendary Buffalo Mountain using textiles\, photography\, painting\, and glasswork. Also included in the exhibit are memories of early 20th Century life around Buffalo Mountain taken from 1999-2001 interviews with longtime residents.\nAs the Cultural Arts Museum for Floyd County\, our permanent exhibit spaces are filled with glimpses of life here from prehistoric stone tools to contemporary sculptures. \nWe’re at 110 Wilson Street (between Finders Keepers and Hotel Floyd) with ample parking and walking access off the town Heritage Trail. Admission is free.
