What a long\, strange trip it’s been! \nThe Kind\, a Blacksburg based folk-rock band\, is familiar to anyone who has passed through the New River Valley in the last thirty nine years. Formed in 1986\, The Kind plays in a variety of styles that ranges from classic rock\, R&B\, and jazz to bluegrass and country; however\, the arena which they most frequently blend their diverse influences is their huge melting pot of Grateful Dead covers. Over the years\, The Kind has been privileged to perform with the likes of Jorma Kaukonen (Jefferson Airplane & Hot Tuna)\, Rick Danko (The Band)\, Merle Saunders (The Jerry Garcia Band)\, The New Riders of the Purple Sage\, and Jefferson Airplane. The Kind combines strong lead vocals and harmonies together with intertwining melodies and soulful rhythmic grooves to produce a fun\, flowing and danceable experience. They are equally at home in a laid-back acoustic setting or a high-energy electric experience. \nOPENING ACT: Whitney Lewis Music \nYou may know Whitney Lewis\, a beloved local musician\, from bands such as The Buck&Griz Show. His main project\, Whitney Lewis Music\, features original songs and guitar gadgetry! He has been performing his own songs for decades. The songs range from soulful ballads to psychedelic explorations.

Bring your instrument and join in the music or grab some food and be our audience! The jam is open and free for everyone. \n12:00pm – 1:00pm: Old-Time Beginner Jam in the Floyd Country Store Community Room\n1:30pm – 3:30pm: Old-Time Music Jam\n4:00pm – 5:30pm: Bluegrass Jam \nJoin us for old time beginner jams from 12:00 to 1:00 in the Floyd Country Store Community Room. The old time jam session starts at 1:30 and is hosted by a different string band each week\, leading tunes at a moderate speed. Traditional instruments and dancers welcome! At 4:00 the bluegrass jam kicks off\, with hosts who lead the group in bluegrass songs and tunes. Song selections and solos pass around the circle. Sunday Music Jams are a great way to see traditional music the way it has been played and handed down for centuries\, amongst friends and family in a community setting.

A group of Handmade Music School music teachers and collaborators are inspired and motivated to capture the voices of the elder musicians from Southwest Virginia to ensure their voices have lasting life. DESCRIPTION:Every Sunday afternoon The Floyd Country Store comes alive with community music during our old time and bluegrass music jams. Bring your instrument and join in the music or grab some food and be our audience! The jam is open and free for everyone. \n12:00pm – 1:00pm: Old-Time Beginner Jam in the Floyd Country Store Community Room\n1:30pm – 3:30pm: Old-Time Music Jam\n4:00pm – 5:30pm: Bluegrass Jam \nJoin us for old time beginner jams from 12:00 to 1:00 in the Floyd Country Store Community Room. The old time jam session starts at 1:30 and is hosted by a different string band each week\, leading tunes at a moderate speed. Traditional instruments and dancers welcome! At 4:00 the bluegrass jam kicks off\, with hosts who lead the group in bluegrass songs and tunes. Song selections and solos pass around the circle. Sunday Music Jams are a great way to see traditional music the way it has been played and handed down for centuries\, amongst friends and family in a community setting.
