SUMMARY:Richie & Rosie Live
DESCRIPTION:Join us at The Floyd Country Store on Saturday\, September 19\, 2026 at 7:00 pm for a live concert with Richie Sterns & Rosie Newton. Tickets are $20 general admission\, $25 reserved seating\, $10 for kids under 12. Available for sale online and in the store. \nABOUT RICHIE & ROSIE\nRichie Stearns and Rosie Newton grew up a 150 miles and few decades apart. While both were raised by professional cellist\, Richie started playing banjo at 14 and Rosie began classical piano lessons at eight\, eventually moving to classical viola as a teen. Both shared incredibly unique\, musically-immersed childhoods: Richie’s family founded the iconic GrassRoots Festival of Music & Dance (which he is now President of) and by her junior year of high school\, Rosie was playing fiddle and touring with folk rock band The Mammals. During that time\, the two were introduced at Saratoga Springs’ Flurry festival — a meeting that would spark a fated friendship and unique musical bond. \nDuring Rosie’s freshman year\, the two finally began touring together regionally as part of the Evil City String Band\, where they were joined by bass player Ben Gould\, Steve Selin on Fiddle (in addition to Rosie)\, and guitarist Paddy Burke. Eventually\, they decided to pursue a more intimate project as a duo and in 2013\, released Tractor Beam\, a 12-track mix of originals and classics\, including Townes Van Zandt’s “If I Needed You” and “Say Darlin’ Say”\, a traditional lullaby. Being their first exclusive release as Richie and Rosie\, the pair wanted to give fans a polished recording of the songs that they played live. \nAfter three years of touring and writing\, the duo returned to the studio last December to record their second full-length album\, Nowhere in Time. The record finds itself at a junction of Americana\, old-time\, and folk\, bringing a new sound to traditional music. Recorded with producer Alex Perialas at Pyramid Sound Studios\, the album highlights the incredibly-refined skill of both musicians — and while the majority of the album is a simple combination of fiddle\, banjo\, and captivating melodies\, the duo manages to pack an incredibly full sound. “At the beginning\, we were thinking it might be a project with lots of other people involved\, more of a big production. As we went through it\, we realized that the magic lies within the duo. We have an intimacy of music and we feel the power of two people playing. That’s who we are\,” said Rosie.

SUMMARY:Transformation: InStill’s 10th Birthday Celebration
DESCRIPTION:10 Years of InStill: Growing Community\, Deepening Practice\, Transforming Lives \nTen years of introducing people to mindfulness. Ten years of deepening relationships. Ten years of supporting one another to live mindful and peaceful lives\, and holding compassionate space for those transforming struggle into joy and connection. On Saturday\, September 19\, InStill Mindfulness celebrates it all. And everyone’s invited. \nThe 10th Anniversary Celebration runs from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Shanti at Deer Park Farm in Pilot\, Virginia. The event is free and open to everyone—longtime practitioners\, community partners\, and first-time visitors alike. \nThe daylong gathering embodies the spirit of InStill’s work\, blending meditation and movement\, kirtan\, a dance party\, and an evening fire ceremony\, with food by Deer Park Farm. It’s an invitation to slow down\, reconnect\, and celebrate a milestone together. \nFounded in 2016\, InStill Mindfulness has grown from a small mindfulness organization into a community anchor across the New River Valley and Southwest Virginia\, working with individuals\, schools\, workplaces\, and community programs to cultivate kindness\, compassion\, and care. Since relocating to Pulaski in 2023\, InStill has built the InStill Center for Wellbeing into a hub for addressing substance use\, mental health\, housing instability\, and social isolation through mindfulness-informed approaches\, growing from two employees in 2024 to over a dozen Team Members now. \nAmong the contributions InStill is proud to celebrate this year:\n* Peer Recovery\, Reentry & Compassionate Crisis Response — In the past year alone\, InStill’s Peer Recovery team has supported nearly 400 individuals through almost 2\,000 recovery and reentry visits\, connecting participants to treatment\, housing\, basic needs\, and community resources\, in collaboration with partners across the region’s recovery ecosystem. \n* Contemplative Life Skills in Juvenile Detention — A biweekly class for youth at the New River Valley Juvenile Detention Home\, supporting self-awareness\, emotional regulation\, resilience\, and successful reentry. \n* InSpire Community Gatherings — Weekly gatherings\, spanning across Southwest Virginia and beyond\, and also online\, which bring neighbors together for reflection\, dialogue\, and practice—strengthening the contemplative community InStill has built over ten years. \nThese programs share a common thread that has defined InStill from the start: making mindfulness accessible to the people and places that need it most. \nIt’s hard to believe it’s been ten years since InStill was founded as a one-person operation out of my home in Floyd. In this time\, we’ve never wavered from our core mission of providing people in Southwest Virginia with tools for personal transformation—both through our mindfulness groups\, retreats and classes\, and through our Peer Recovery services. We have served thousands of people in that time\, and we are here to celebrate every one of them! —Jamie Reygle\, Executive Director \nWhether you’ve practiced with InStill for years or are simply curious about meditation\, movement\, and community\, all are warmly welcome to join the celebration. \nInStill freely offers this program; however\, we do rely on donations from our participants to support our programs and all contributions are gratefully received.

SUMMARY:Andrew Scotchie Live
DESCRIPTION:Born and raised in Asheville\, Andrew Scotchie is everything rock-n-roll was meant to be: sweaty\, soul-stirring\, a little dangerous\, and absolutely alive. With the fire of the Stones\, the blues of Lightnin’ Hopkins\, and the message of a punk-fueled preacher\, Scotchie and his band have become a staple of the Southeast music scene. He’s shared stages with legends\, crowd-surfed dive bars\, and continues to craft his unique sound. His latest record\, Love Is Enough\, is a love letter to connection\, chaos\, and keeping your heart open in a world gone sideways.

SUMMARY:Henry Hardt's Mudcats Live
DESCRIPTION:Henry Hardt’s Mudcats are Jeff Liverman\, Jeremia Dwier\, Barb Gillespie\, Ray Braley and Will Norton. The band sings and plays Piedmont and old time street blues\, reveling in music penned earlier in the 20th century\, from Charlie Pool to Muddy Water to Robert Johnson and the Mississippi Sheiks. The Mudcat’s specialize in illuminating the influence that old style street music including blues and jug band sounds had on modern Rock and Roll. They play songs made popular by such artists as Rolling Stones\, Bob Dylan\, Nirvanas and Eric Clapton but they play in the style of the original recordings from the 1920s and 30s. Henry Hardt’s Mudcats are a fun\, danceable look back at some of the most influential music of the last three generations.

SUMMARY:AIKIDO
DESCRIPTION:Aikido is a Japanese martial art teaching self defense using efficient body movements\, not strength\, to redirect the force of an attack and diffusing it. The physical aspects of aikido replace punching and kicking an opponent with joint locks\, throws and pins. Aikido training also focuses on the flow of energy and the dynamics of movement and encourages partners to train together cooperatively. Training offers additional benefits beyond self-defense and will increase your awareness\, flexibility\, and balance. You will also have the opportunity to train your body and mind with breathing\, and meditative exercise which help you learn principles that are practical for self defense as well as daily life. Feel free to trim down to make it fit if it is too long. \nPlease contact Jeff Dowd for further details at 804-366-5499
