DESCRIPTION:Tall tales are as old as the Appalachian hills. For the first time in Southwest Virginia\, the best yarn spinner will be crowned at the Liars Contest\, Nov. 16\, in Floyd\, Virginia\, at the June Bug Center. The contest starts at 5:30 p.m. Admission is free. The winner will receive a $100 cash prize and a golden shovel to honor their storytelling prowess.“Liars contests are taking off around the country\,” said Clint Atwater\, founder of Storytelling ConnectIons\, LLC\, and Let Me Tell Ya! events\, which produced the show. “Audiences love the outlandish tales and unforgettable stories. You have to wonder\, are the tellers stretching the truth or all-out lying?” Atwater said any family friendly topic is fair game\, including fish stories\, aliens\, “strike it rich\,” ghosts and vacation adventures. “I’m pretty excited about what the contestants will come up with.”\nContestants of all ages pay $10 to enter. They’re required to preregister through Eventbrite\nat https://Inyurl.com/mtuh47ay. Registration is limited to 12 contestants.\nAtwater said he’s grateful to the contest sponsors: The June Bug Center\, Blue Ridge Story\nSpace (which performs at June Bug)\, and the Virginia Storytelling Alliance. “Thanks to them\, we’ll\nhave prizes of $100–First Place\, $50–Second Place and $25–Third Place\,” he said.\nAtwater said attendees will find a warm and welcoming environment. “They’ll be part of the vibrant local community that appreciates this art.” Facebook Live will stream the performance.\nThe Liars Contest is part of Tellabration!\, a National Storytelling Network event that introduces new audiences to storytelling.

Our shop is also stocked with great mushroom foraging tools like field guides & specialty knives\, as well as the Official Chanterellefest Tshirt! \nKids activities include a Fairy House Building contest to work on beforehand and on the day of the event we will have a chanterelle drawing contest with prizes going to the best in each contest! Headlining this year’s festival is the acclaimed Christian Artist\, Building 429. Renowned for their uplifting and anthemic songs\, Building 429 is set to deliver a powerful performance that resonates with audiences. Joining them on stage are other talented artists including Lifeline Worship\, The Gospel Warriors\, AJ Cantrell\, Tanner Blankenship\, and guest speaker-Logan Sherrill from WDBJ7. \nThe Replenish Festival offers much more than just music. There are 2 ways to find Floyd from that direction…either come through Roanoke via I-81 to I-581 to SR221 South to the Floyd Stoplight or via I-81 to the RT 8 South/Floyd/Christiansburg exit to the Floyd Stoplight. If you come Rt8\, about 5 miles before the Town of Floyd\, turn Right on Rt 730 (Ridgeview Rd). Continue to the stop sign on Rt 750 (Alum Ridge Rd). Go straight on Rt 730 (now Duncan’s Chapel) to a Left on RT 787 (Indian Valley Rd). Go 4 miles to the Replenish Festival on the Left! If you are coming down I-77\, use the West/South directions.
