DESCRIPTION:This event is a fundraiser for Floyd County EMS Department. Floyd Volunteer Fire Department\, and the Floyd County Sheriff’s Department. These three organizations will compete with each other for best chili bragging rights as determined by a panel of pre-selected judges as well as the People’s Choice award. The general public is invited to purchase one dollar tickets to use for voting for their favorite chili. Free chili tastings with drinks and ice cream for sale. Donations encouraged. Tasting starts at 5pm and judging starts at 6pm. Please note that three organizations are the only ones bringing chili to be judged. The Chili Cookoff is part of a larger event at the same site = Citizens Coop’s Free Community Concert.

SUMMARY:Tour de Floyd
DESCRIPTION:Red Rooster is reviving the Tour de Floyd\, a popular annual metric century (100km) bike ride to raise funds for Blue Mountain School\, a 44-year old contemplative progressive school in Floyd\, VA. The ride will take place on Saturday\, May 17th\, with a starting time of 8:30am for the traditional route. In addition to the “Classic\,” there will also be four other routes available ranging from the “Dirty” all gravel ride to a short 5k for young bike enthusiasts. \nThis year’s ride will be starting at the Floyd Eco Village located at 188 Eco Village Trail\, Floyd VA just outside the Town of Floyd. Red Rooster Coffee will welcome all riders with a complimentary breakfast and coffee upon arrival\, as well as a full espresso bar. Start the ride with freshly brewed\, locally-roasted coffee\, alongside a selection of delicious and energizing quick eats. Blue Mountain School is also excited to host 5 aid stations. The aid stations along the race routes will embody the spirit of Blue Mountain School. Each class from Blue Mountain School will take ownership of a station\, providing a unique experience as riders stop to refuel and recharge. From class themed decorations to refreshing treats\, including the old classic “cookie station”\, each aid station will provide a memorable boost to keep riders motivated and connect them to the Blue Mountain School community. \nRegistration is available online at www.BikeReg.com/tour-de-floyd-2025 through May 16th\, with early-bird pricing available until March 31st. Since 2006\, this program has delivered over half a million meals\, and by the end of this school year\, it will have topped 600\,000 meals served to children in need. \n🌾 Each full priced meal ticket includes:\n✔️ A handcrafted ceramic bowl by local potters (yours to keep!)\n✔️ Hearty soup\, fresh bread\, dessert & beverage\n✔️ Live local music and a warm community vibe \nFor ticket prices and to purchase tickets online\, please visit the “Floyd Empty Bowls” Facebook page\nThe program is 100% volunteer-run\, with Floyd Rotary members assembling backpacks every Wednesday. Additionally\, the brunch will provide an excellent opportunity to learn about the history and recognize the decades long commitment the school has made to the young minds and hearts of our community. SUMMARY:Floyd Empty Bowls
DESCRIPTION:Want to have your soup and keep your bowl too? The annual Empty Bowls fundraising event will be held on Sunday\, April 28\, 2024 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Floyd County High School. Empty Bowls supports NRCA’s Floyd County Backpack Program. The Backpack Program has served Floyd County students in all five schools and NRCA Head Start this school year with over 3\,800 meals provided each month to students that could likely otherwise go hungry over the weekend.\nEach adult ticket holder can pick out a handmade ceramic bowl made by a local potter. All guests receive soup\, bread\, dessert and a drink to enjoy with live music. Ticket prices are $25 for adults\, $10 for children age 6-12 (no bowl)\, age 5 and under are free (no bowl). Ticket are available to purchase in person at multiple sales locations in Floyd and online. Ticket sales information will be posted on the Floyd Back Program page – https://www.facebook.com/FloydBackPack/\nIf you are unable to attend the event\, but would like to contribute\, donors may send tax-deductible contributions for the Backpack Program to New River Community Action\, PO Box 849\, Floyd\, VA 24091 or deliver donations to the NRCA Emergency Assistance Office at 323 Floyd Highway South. Donors should make checks payable to NRCA and note Floyd County Backpack Program (FCBP) in the memo section.
