DESCRIPTION:Old Church Gallery proudly presents our 2024 exhibit “There’s the Buffalo!” Over twenty local artists share their personal visions of Floyd County’s legendary Buffalo Mountain using textiles\, photography\, painting\, and glasswork. Also included in the exhibit are memories of early 20th Century life around Buffalo Mountain taken from 1999-2001 interviews with longtime residents.\nAs the Cultural Arts Museum for Floyd County\, our permanent exhibit spaces are filled with glimpses of life here from prehistoric stone tools to contemporary sculptures. \nWe’re at 110 Wilson Street (between Finders Keepers and Hotel Floyd) with ample parking and walking access off the town Heritage Trail. Admission is free.

DESCRIPTION:The first ever Blue Mountain School Donor Appreciation Brunch and Fundraiser will be held on Sunday\, October 6th at 11am and hosted by Red Rooster Coffee in Floyd\, Virginia. \nThe Board of Directors wishes to invite the community to celebrate Blue Mountain School as a leader of alternative education in our region. Additionally\, the brunch will provide an excellent opportunity to learn about the history and recognize the decades long commitment the school has made to the young minds and hearts of our community. As it enters its forty-third academic school year\, Blue Mountain School invites the community to share a meal and conversation with the school’s administrators\, staff\, Board Members and school community members. \n“We want to celebrate the generous connections that have cultivated an ecosystem of support\,” says Director Tammie Sarver\, “from our ancient roots to our new budding community\, and the slow growth along the way.” \nJoin the school wide community and explore the organization through story and presentation; hear the exciting and ambitious plans for growth; and cheer with the Blue Mountain School community as they show their deepest gratitude to the donors whose past\, present and future generosity roots the school in its place. \nThe food and coffee will be prepared by the Red Rooster staff and feature local ingredients along with espresso based drinks at a cash bar. DESCRIPTION:The Rhythmajigs with George Segebade calling. Treat yourself to an evening of easy\, relaxed fun with lots of smiles and live music. All dance figures are taught by the caller\, and there is a free lesson at 7:00 pm before the dance which runs from 7:30 – 10:30 pm. Beginners and experienced dancers\, all ages\, welcome. Come alone or with a partner; dress is casual and soft-soled shoes that glide work best. \nAll are welcome. If you feel sick or were recently exposed to someone with symptoms of an illness that may be contagious\, please stay home and take care of yourself\, so we can see you at our next dance.
