DESCRIPTION:The Floyd Center for the Arts is proud to announce our 30th Annual Winterfest and Festival of Trees! Join us on Saturday and Sunday\, December 7 & 8\, 10am-5pm\, for a weekend full of holiday cheer. FCA will be hosting a variety of local art vendors\, showcasing a robust sampling of media including handmade ceramics\, painting\, jewelry\, fiber arts\, wearables\, woodworking\, baked goods\, and everything you’ll need to fulfill your holiday wishlist! Our Festival of Trees will once again invite our community to participate by sponsoring and decorating holiday trees that will be open for bids from the public. All proceeds benefit the Floyd Center for the Arts. Winterfest and the Festival of Trees is a community event that is free and open to the public.

DESCRIPTION:Old Church Gallery proudly presents our 2024 exhibit “There’s the Buffalo!” Over twenty local artists share their personal visions of Floyd County’s legendary Buffalo Mountain using textiles\, photography\, painting\, and glasswork. Also included in the exhibit are memories of early 20th Century life around Buffalo Mountain taken from 1999-2001 interviews with longtime residents.\nAs the Cultural Arts Museum for Floyd County\, our permanent exhibit spaces are filled with glimpses of life here from prehistoric stone tools to contemporary sculptures. \nWe’re at 110 Wilson Street (between Finders Keepers and Hotel Floyd) with ample parking and walking access off the town Heritage Trail. Admission is free.

DESCRIPTION:2nd Annual Sourced Press Wayzgoose:\nFestival de impresión/ Printing Festival at Springhouse \nNovember 1st\, 2024\, 4-8pm\n4-5:30PM – Printing & Workshops\n6-8PM – Tortilla Social Dinner & Community Conversation \nSourced Press\, Springhouse’s print shop\, opened its doors in May 2023 to share the message that a new world is possible. Our printmaking techniques\, such as letterpress and handmade books\, offer a way for our community to experience the power of the printed word and a tradition steeped in social justice\, literary works\, and cultural transformation. We are delighted to announce our 2nd annual Wayzgoose celebration– a printer’s tradition from the 16th century\, celebrating the transition from printing by sunlight to candlelight. \nThe printed word and art\, and the sharing of stories and food\, are ancient ways of building community and of sharing a message. More and more in our world today\, people feel alienated\, and afraid\, especially in rural America. Political\, racial\, and religious differences are being reinforced through divisive rhetoric on all sides. There are few opportunities for real human connection or developing a sense of community and belonging\, let alone ones that bridge these cultural gaps. The 2024 Wayzgoose at Springhouse will be a time to highlight the voices of immigrants\, refugees\, and asylum seekers through the art of printing\, the sharing of stories\, and making and sharing a meal together. \nWe are excited to welcome Salvador Jiménez-Flores\, interdisciplinary artist from Jalisco Mexico\, and founder of the Tortilla Social\, an interactive printmaking and food workshop where participants use a multi-functional tortilla press to make their own art work and to eat freshly made tortillas. This event will include a workshop from Jiménez-Flores and community meal\, followed by a community conversation with Jiménez-Flores and members of our regional community. \nNo one is turned away for lack of funds.
