Sing melody without sheet music, and harmony without hardship, by following along with Frank & Allie Lee. Frank and Allie (of The Freight Hoppers) are a husband and wife duo who perform old time songs with banjos, guitars, and voice across the country. Whether you have sung your whole life or are still getting comfortable with your voice, Frank and Allie can relate, help you find your voice, and show you how to find harmony with someone else’s voice to create a vocal duet.
In this fun, relaxed afternoon workshop, you will learn basic principles of harmony singing, including finding your range, staying on your note, learning to hear the right note to sing, and how to create “blend” when singing with another person. Favorite songs from Frank & Allie’s old time and blues repertoire will be the material. You’ll not only learn a few great songs, but you’ll also learn how to sing harmony on your own favorite songs. Bring a recording device (your smart phone app will do), your instrument if you play one, and a smile.
We all want to live in harmony with each other and our planet. Harmony is more than just a feeling – you can literally experience it through singing! If you can talk, you can sing, and if you can sing, you can be in harmony. Come be in harmony through singing!
“Frank and Allie bring a pure and seasoned musicality to beloved old tunes… a sweet, strong vocal sound accompanied by an impressive array of true Americana instruments. This is music that keeps its close connection to earth.” – Pete Wernick
“They are quick-witted and entertaining. Frank and Allie immediately put you at ease with their genuine friendliness. Their approach to performance is not pretentious or showy, but rather, is a very high level of instrumental and vocal proficiency. Chemistry that can only come from two people who truly love each other. A Gift that is a mystery to some and a blessing to those who choose to develop and share.” – Ernie Hill
“I’ve been a fan of The Freight Hoppers right from the beginning, but what I love about your duo work is the sparseness and the room to hear every note and that you are both such a great complement to each other musically.” – Philomena Carroll
“As with Pharis & Jason Romero or The Honey Dewdrops, there is a special intimacy to the music of Frank & Allie Lee. One assumes it’s a byproduct of the familiarity that comes from making music with the person you also live with. You hear it in the way their voices blend in harmonies that fit like a well-cut corner joist. You hear it in the interplay of their instruments as they back each other’s vocals or solo breaks. Their material ranges from fresh takes on familiar songs to obscure gems they prospected from old songbooks and 78s. They enjoy performing together, and they share that with their audience. Together, it makes for a warm, relaxed, and entirely pleasant evening in the company of a couple who go together like dominant and tonic.”
– Keith Dudding
