Saturday class will start upstairs at The Floyd Country Store, 206 S. Locust Street, Floyd, VA 24091 and will end at the Sanctuary, 401 Hideaway Lane, Floyd VA (weather permitting)
An in-depth introduction to biodynamic/sustainable beekeeping practices.
Participants will learn about the Honeybee as a creative and life-supporting insect and about beekeeping methods that honor her very own needs. We will look at the history and evolution of beekeeping practices as well as the present challenges the bees and beekeepers face. We will also explore the causes of Colony Collapse disorder and discuss what can be done for the future of the Honeybee worldwide. Topics include:
Pros and cons of different hive forms and materials
the importance of swarming, expanding the apiary naturally
the vital importance of having naturally raised queens
mites, hive beetles, foulbrood, etc.
selecting best bee forage
treatements and teas
natural wax comb–working without foundations
