Music At The Fields

Come welcome the return of the starry night sky in music and poetry as the “late year lies down the north”

The program will be introduced by the aethereal (and rarely
performed) Bach/Siloti B Minor Prelude for solo piano and close with Bach’s SHEEP MAY SAFELY GRAZE for guitar.

In between we shall have—

Morten Lauridsen’s setting of James Agee’s SURE ON THIS SHINING NIGHT for tenor and baritone, the opening Bach Double Violin Concerto, and a String Trio of Max Reger

THE WINDHOVER of Gerard Manly Hopkins in a new setting for Baritone and Strings

Poetry by Sarah Lindsay and Anna Zilboorg

DIRECTIONS:

Coming from the East (Martinsville, Stuart, Meadows of Dan) on Route 58 W, turn Right onto Blacksmith Road (Route 600).

Coming from the West on Route 58 E (Hillsville, Galax) turn Left onto Blacksmith. Do not turn onto Dairy Rd. (continuation of Blacksmith to the south)

Coming from the Northwest (Floyd) Take Route 8 South from Floyd to BR Parkway, continue on Parkway South to Route 58 Bus West (Hillsville direction) and follow to Route 58 Bypass. Turn left onto Route 58 Bypass and immediately turn right onto Blacksmith.

Coming from the South (Winston-Salem Mt Airy)
Take Route 52 to Mt. Airy. Watch for 52 BUSINESS near Mt. Airy and turn right onto 52 Business.
Continue on 52 Business passing one or more lights and turn Right onto Route 103. Go 1 block and turn Left onto Route 104. Continue for 11.5 miles to a Left turn at Rt 614 (watch carefully for 614) Continue on 614 to Rt 58. Turn Left on 58. Then shortly turn Left onto 58 Bypass. Then quick Right onto Blacksmith.

Continue on Blacksmith to Right Turn onto Mc Peak Ln. Bear slightly left at END STATE MAINT and Follow 387 signs to end.
