In search of warmer weather during this cold spell when the Blue Ridge Parkway is closed, we’re moving the solstice hike south to Pilot Mountain and to the day after the winter solstice. We’ll hike from the base of Pilot Mountain to the top, taking the Grindstone and Ledge Spring trails up and taking the Grindstone trail back down for a loop of approximately 6.5 miles. We’ll take a short break at the new overlook so there will be time for a quick snack while viewing the Blue Ridge Mountains. We should be finished by 3pm. We’ll be hiking at a minimum of 8 feet apart. Please bring a mask for the few times when this might not be possible, e.g., passing others on the trail.
Although this event is free, registration is required so we can contact you in case there is a need to cancel due to weather.
