The Floyd Contra Dance welcomes the Earl White String Band from Floyd County for the Saturday, October 13, contra dance. Contra dance to traditional Americana and old-time music–easy relaxed fun for all ages at the Floyd Center for the Arts, second floor, 7 – 10 p.m. (note new time).
A beginner session starts at 6:30. North Carolina caller Stephanie Marie brings an excellent dance repertoire and prompts the dance figures from the stage. Earl White, a prominent figure in the old-time music and dance community, has performed across the country and around the world. As a founding member of the famed Greengrass Cloggers he spent years dancing to the music of many of the old-time greats: Tommy Jarrell, The Highwoods Stringband, The Plank Road Stringband, to name a few. “The Earl White Stringband” recently released a self-titled album featuring Earl White (fiddle), Adrienne Davis (guitar), Mark Olitsky (banjo), and Joe “bass” Dejarnette (bass).
Their repertoire will make dancing easy and fun. The caller teaches all the dance figures during the evening, as well as a beginner workshop before the dance. Treat yourself to an evening of easy, relaxed fun with lots of smiles and live music.
