Opening Art Reception – Hayloft, Falcon and Breezeway Galleries
February 3, 2018 : 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Please join us as we welcome three distinctly different exhibits to the Center. Upstairs, in our main exhibit space, the Hayloft Gallery, we will be displaying New Voice, our annual invitational exhibit featuring several artists who are either just starting their artistic carers or are moving in completely new directions with their art. Downstairs, in the Falcon Gallery, we welcome Walking with Magic, a fairytale-like photography exhibit by Coriander Focus Photography. Also downstairs, in the Breezeway Gallery, we welcome the musical journey photography of Roger Gupta.
All three exhibits will remain on display through Saturday, March 31, 2018. The galleries are free and open to the public Monday – Saturday, 10:00 – 5:00 pm. Please read below for more information regarding each exhibit.
New Voice – Each year the Center invites regional university art instructors to recommend current and former students who are just starting along their artistic paths, or who are somehow changing their artistic journeys in a significant way. The Center also solicits recommendations from its board and gallery committee members in order to include a wide variety of fresh talent in this exhibit. This year’s referrals came from Radford University, Virginia Tech, Hollins University and The Floyd Center for the Arts Board and Gallery Committee members.
The 2018 invited artists to New Voice are as follows:
Meera Chauhan
Lam Dinh
Elise Gill
Oddy Gumption
Joe Ingram
L.S. King,
Savannah Kitterman
Katy Layman
Ashley-Kate Meador
Cory Potrafka

Artist’s Statement – My photographs immerse the viewer into a fairytale landscape. My process is to theatrically craft my subjects on-site which requires little editing in the final image.
Each image creates a journey through a surreal world of powerful characters created to inspire women in larger than life scenarios. Portrayed in vibrant colors that spin tales of passion and courage, I strive for a balance between whimsical fairies and potent heroines. In a world that I see as surrounded by magic, my hope is to open the eyes of my viewers to the fanciful tales that are happening in
their own lives.
Photography by Roger Gupta
Roger Gupta became fascinated with photography early in childhood; amazed at the ability to see and hold an image captured from another time and place in his hand. One of Roger’s favorite things about photography is finding the beauty all around in so many forms. Revealing this beauty in the music scene has been an ongoing, highly rewarding passion. The scenes that music evokes can be other-worldly, beautifully bright and upliftingly joyous. Please enjoy this semblance of captured musical moments captured with feeling and presence.
All on display February 3, 2018 – March 31, 2018
