Dale Ann Bradley

Bluegrass music is one of the uniquely American musical genres, and no one carries on its illustrious tradition better than Pinecastle recording artist Dale Ann Bradley. A two time Grammy Nominee for Bluegrass Album of the Year, first for her 2016 release “Pocket Full of Keys” and next for her band release “Sister Sadie II,” in 2018, FIVE time International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Female Vocalist of the Year, and 2019 Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music’s (SPBGMA) Female Vocalist of the Year, and most recent inductee into the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame, Dale Ann Bradley has achieved international acclaim for her true blue vocals.
Dale Ann Bradley is a one of a kind bluegrass musician with a way of bringing honesty and truth to the surface of any song. Her vocal reveals the heart of the lyric and has the ability to conjure emotion from any audience. Dale Ann is truly a beloved bluegrass heroine who maintains authenticity to the genre while adding her own unique stamp.
With the release of her latest self-produced album on Pinecastle Records, recorded at the label’s own Bonfire Recording Studio, Dale Ann Bradley proves yet again that she is the rare bluegrass and Americana queen that we have all known, love and followed for decades. She is as authentic as it gets and always leaves us wanting for more.

The New Ballards Branch Bogtrotters

About 25 years ago a group of musicians from the Galax, VA area formed a new band. The New Ballards Branch Bogtrotters took their name, in part from the original Bogtrotters of the 1930’s also because band leader Dennis Hall lives on Ballards Branch. Denis’ home is very close to the home of Uncle Eck Dunford who played fiddle in the original band. The other members of the original Bogtrotters were Uncle Wade Ward, his two brothers, Davy Crockett Ward, and Fields Ward, and Doctor Davis. They won the very first fiddlers Convention in Galax setting a precedence for all that follow in their footsteps. The New Ballard’s Branch Bogtrotters continue to play in the traditional Appalachian string-band style often playing for square dances around the region. Rounding out the Bogtrotters lineup are: Eddie Bond on Fiddle (2018 NEA National Heritage Fellow), Dennis Hall on guitar, Josh Ellis on clawhammer banjo, Bonnie Bond on bass and Caroline Beverly on mandolin. Old time music is alive and well, and continues to attract fans of all ages. The New Ballards Branch Bogtrotters remain a driving force in carrying the traditional music of the Virginia/Carolina Blue Ridge into the new millennium. They are an inspiration for future generations of mountain musicians!

Jake Blount (w/ Jeff Claus & Judy Hyman)
Jake Blount is an award-winning banjoist, fiddler, singer and scholar based in Washington, DC. He is half of the internationally touring duo Tui and a 2020 Strathmore Artist in Residence. He has studied with modern masters of old-time music, including Bruce Molsky, Judy Hyman (of the Horse Flies), and Rhiannon Giddens and Hubby Jenkins (of the GRAMMY-winning Carolina Chocolate Drops). Although he is proficient in multiple old-time styles, he specializes in the music of Black and Native American communities in the southeastern United States, and in the regional style of Ithaca, New York. In 2016, Blount became the first Black person to make the finals at the prestigious Appalachian String Band Music Festival (better known as Clifftop), and the first to win in the traditional band category. In the following year, he received his B.A. in Ethnomusicology from Hamilton College and released his debut EP, “Reparations,” with award-winning fiddler Tatiana Hargreaves. He toured Scandinavia and released a CD with the Moose Whisperers in 2018. He opened several shows for MacArthur “Genius Grant” recipient Rhiannon Giddens the same year, and joined Libby Weitnauer to form the duo Tui while on a tour of Australia and New Zealand. In 2019, Tui released their debut album, Pretty Little Mister, and Blount claimed first place in the banjo contest at Clifftop with three tunes from Black banjoists. He is now working toward his first full-length solo album. Jake will be joined by Judy Hyman and Jeff Claus of the Horseflies
