SUSTAINFLOYD AND JMU CENTER FOR WIND ENERGY PRESENT INFORMATION ON SMALL WIND OPPORTUNITIES IN FLOYD COUNTY

SustainFloyd and the Center for Wind Energy leadership and staff will host a public meeting on the evening of Thursday, November 16, at 6:00 pm at the Jesse Peterman public library Community Room.  All citizens are welcome to participate. There is no fee associated with the event.

SustainFloyd and the Center for Wind Energy at James Madison University (JMU) are partnering to present an informational meeting on small wind energy opportunities in Floyd County. Small wind or Distributed wind can be defined as systems for homes, schools, farms and businesses that may range from 1 KW to 10 KW or slightly larger. This session is not about utility scale wind systems. Utility scale systems may be defined as those that are 100 KW are larger and are normally part of a large scale wind farm.

The JMU Wind Energy Center was an exhibitor at the recently held Floyd Energy Fair and discussed small wind basics with several interested people.

The Distributed Wind Assistance Program for Virginia is a new program being launched by the Center for Wind Energy at James Madison University intended to leverage the excellent wind resources in Virginia where they coincide with rural small businesses and agricultural producers. The program, which is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Virginia Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy, will advance diversification of the state’s power generation portfolio while simultaneously enabling small businesses and agricultural producers to generate power independently while reducing their electricity costs. This effort is intended to advance the renewable energy goals set forth by our administration.

Floyd County was selected by JMU as the first and pilot community in which to explore opportunities for Distributed Wind with support from this program. SustainFloyd and the Center for Wind Energy leadership and staff will host a public meeting on the evening of Thursday, November 16, at 6:00 pm at the Jesse Peterman public library Community Room.  All citizens are welcome to participate. There is no fee associated with the event.
