Create a clay tile with a tree using an underglaze, drawing and sgraffito techniques. The tile will later be fired and picked up the following Friday at the studio. This 6×7 tile can be used as trivet or a wall hanging. Sgraffito is an ancient and simple technique that is basically scratching through a layer of pigment to reveal the clay color underneath on leatherhard, unfired clay. In this case the clay is white and the underglaze is black which is a high contrast that pops. Trees in the winter show their beautiful line quality and I thought this would be an inspirational subject. I will have visual aids for you to draw from or trace no worries! Cost 35. All supplies provided.
