Being Your Own Best Friend with Self-Criticism

February 13, 2019 : 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Do you ever say “I am my worst critic?” I used to and I hear it often from others. Inner Critics and Judges can be tough to understand and develop trusting relationships with. Here, I’ll share a process of consistent clarity and radical gentleness that transformed my inner critics into my most avid cheerleaders.
Ready for more peace within? You might start here.

If you curious about Focusing and looking for a gentle introduction, this space is for you! It’s also an ideal space for an experienced Focuser to work on these particular inner themes with the benefit of a weekly structure. Being Your Own Best Friend is centered around exploring and improving your relationship with yourself from wherever it is now. You will deepen your sense of trust within. We’ll explore how our brain works using current neuroscience concepts. We’ll use various body awareness, mindfulness and Focusing activities to become familiar with our own individual inner processes around what it means for us to be our own best friend.

Classes will include time for sensing within yourself, mindfulness exercises to adapt into your daily life, opportunities to become more familiar with how to navigate your inner landscape, Presence language exercises, writing, art and body awareness/movement activities and possibly a Demo of Focusing-in-action. There will be some reading and handouts provided by email. We will not be partnering with others in the class here, only working individually. Focusing experience is not required, although it will certainly add to what you get from this class. You will be able to go deeper on the themes offered here if you already have experience.

Some benefits of practicing these relational skills in this environment:
• Explore and improve your relationship with yourself
• Deepen your sense of trust within
• Explore how our brain works with current neuroscience concepts
• Body awareness and guided Focusing activities
• Benefit from the structure of 5 weekly classes
• Mindfulness activities to adapt into your daily life
• Nurture your own sense of self worth

For the Video Web Conference class, we will be utilizing a program called Zoom. You will need to download it onto your computer or phone to join us via video. You’ll be in a conference space with myself as teacher and a group of friendly fellow learners from all over the US. With zoom, you are in control of your video and audio, and have access to a chat space to type in comments or responses. Video Web seminars work amazingly well. Hope to see you here!
